some sketches done at life drawing sessions, hopefully more to come. also gonna try to expand my repertoire from just nudes to include other stuff. I come from an animation background, with a bit of fine art thrown in. all sketches done in pencil (graphite or blue) and black pen, with the levels adjusted in photoshop so you can actually see the scans clearly.

Really loving these figure studies from life, really well done! Nice presentation too! My tip: check out Michael Hampton, Glenn Vilppu and Mike Matessi if you haven't already. Top work buddy.

Wow, tons of figures..! o.o Good for you, they're looking really sharp.

For that digital portrait... it's really close to accurate and your use of textures is great. If you want critique on it, there's a couple proportions that have gotten a little bended out of place, creating a slightly wonky look, and the contrast is a little too high some places (like below his eye). I'd flip it around a couple times and paint down the contrast. But you chose a really difficult picture to do a good study of, because the light is so ambient and indecisive, there's no easy way to model the form. And with light like that, no matter what you do, even at your study's highest level of finish, it's gonna look like a photo, not a painting... So for some quick practice and to work with textures, it's a fair study. But if you really want to do a portrait, I'd chose a better photo or work from life. I just don't think there's much impressive anyone could do with that photo, unless you wanna significantly alter it in your version (which is fun practice in itself, but not what you're aiming to do, I don't think).

Anyway, your figures look really great, and the portrait is strong overall. I think a color self-portrait from life could be just what you need to round out this thread~.

really big figure dump from the last couple of weeks. started a new fulltime dayjob to pay the bills so haven't had a lot of time for anything else.

I love that you make an effort to showcase multiple body types in the figure studies. You also seem to have a solid skeletal understanding. I can see it in the way the gestures are structured.

I might second the post above critiquing the referenced portrait about a couple of small proportion errors and suggest some skull studies but quality stuff I'd like to come back and check in on regularly.

Also, some personal work, something out of your head would be cool to see. I think that it's possible to get so wrapped up in these improving studies that we forget why we're doing this. Both because we want to make our imagined stuff better and because this is some of the most fun work you could possibly do. I guess what I'm saying is that there's no point in doing all the exercise if you don't flex your muscles a bit (metaphorically speaking of course).

thanks aaron. i've been drawing a while so i sometimes get bored with drawing thin or small feminine bodies and so when i have someone different to draw i think i put more effort in because it's more fun. also i find a lot of young feminine models don't pose very well or can't hold a pose, which is frustrating when you're trying to draw them.

And yeah on your digital portrait, if you hate to work on it just start a fresh one, apply the things you learned from the previous one, repeat!
That said I really love your sketches!
