Your technique is Freakin beautiful. Better than anything I could do..... BUT.....
You are matte painting, so it needs to read in a film (type) environment, and film generally has alot less focus than your images. It's unusual for both foreground and background planes to both be in focus in a film. Pick your focus area and apply atmospheric blur/haze etc to the rest.
