That has to be the single most adorable jumping spider I've ever seen.

Cute spider overload definitely! Jumping spiders are the only kind of spider my borderline-arachnaphobic mother doesn't mind at all, and actually almost likes. As kids, we called them "look-at-you spiders"--whenever we'd spot one on say, a swingset pole and get close to look at it, it would turn around, stare you in the face, and then run around to the other side.

This fellow takes amazing giant macro photographs of insects of all kinds. He's got a lot of gorgeous pictures of honeybees and dragonflies especially.

(You should really go check out the actual page, these are just the sized-down preview images, the full-sized photos are enormous.)
    (Like, THIS enormous.)

There is a little square button with a picture of a mountain and a sun just above where you type. Just click that, and paste in the image url.

A photo by an electromicroscope of an bacteriophage. These are kinda like real -life "zombies" or "undead", because they cannot replicate themselves without injecting their RNA or DNA (ss or ds) into the host bacteria which is much larger. The bacteria then start to replicate the phages and in the end lysate and burst, spreading the replicated phages to more bacteria for infection. lol quick biology lesson, I think many of you have gone through this in school.

omfg! I hope Im not the only one tripping bawls over this. I had no idea..

    http://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comment...rd_with_wings/

The crazy part is that those lines you see running through the wings like veins are actually its ribs! Evolution did a number on these guys. They can expand and contract their chests at will to glide great distances. We were only able to catch females as they were laying their eggs. All we could do is watch as the males soared overhead.

A couple of photos I took:
This native cockroach was stuck in a crack on an old tree stump; somehow it had gotten into this position where none of it's legs could reach anything to get itself free. I saved the poor little guy and took some photos. Definitely the most attractive cockroach I've ever seen.
And a pretty big (like 30cm long or something) stick insect I found. I really like his little vestigial wings.

If I'm not mistaken it's an Crinoid aka Sea Lily, which crawls to escape predators. It's an Echinodermata, related to the starfish and sea cucumbers, aswell as the sea urchin that can be seen in the same post.

Anyone remember that scene in Toy Story when Andy and Buzz meet Sid's really creepy looking dolls who are actually good. you think it was a homage to this movie?

    My reactions in this thread:

    Lizards!

this is a sick thread! thought I would make a contribution, I love lizards!
These first two are my images, one is a little lizard that can be found out east here in Colorado. The second are two mutations of bull snakes that I used to keep as pets. The rest belong to others.

    colorful lizards are great

world record for most fingers/toes go to a boy born in China with 31 total:

an xray of his 15 fingers *(the 15th is growing on his right thumb)

the condition is known as polydactyly (which to me sounds like a dinosaur or pokemon name ), and he's had surgery now to remove them

We saw a partially dissected erect penis a few pages ago, I'm sure we can handle a little benign cancer.

It's a type of cancer? I always thought it was a grossly misshapen fetus of some sort.

    I'm afraid to Google it
