Wooo, new thread!

First of all, sorry about the enormous amount of pics here, I'll try and update more regularly so that doesn't happen again haha

I'm 20, currently living in Los Angeles, and these are all (except the last 3 portraits) from my first term at school (10 weeks at LAAFA) that I've just finished, most of it sucks, but I think there's a nice progression at least Hope you agree!

If you like what you see, hate it, or have anything to say that you think will help me improve at all then please, don't be shy!

It isn't ALL pages of gesture drawings btw, there's better stuff further down

I'm quite happy with this though, not because it's particularly good at all, but I only had about 30-40 mins to rush through it and I think I did pretty well with the time I had






This and the drawing below with 2 figures side by side are the only things worth showing from my sight size block-in class, I'm actually quite happy with them though


The head on the side was my teacher's, sergio sanchez, not mine :p




I started running out of time with this one so I decided to quickly just hatch in all the shadows roughly instead of being really smooth with them, I actually quite like how it came out

Wow, this is a really good start. Those first few pages of life drawing are especially nice.
I really like some of the portraits too. It's really cool that you've picked up on some facial features of the models though I think you might be exaggerating them a bit too much which is easy to do. I know I do that a lot!
It'll be cool to see the next update

Here's some stuff from my sketchbook that I didn't put up yesterday, I thought it would be a nice break from life drawings of heads and naked people

These first few are studies from claire wendling, as recommended to me by Mr. Ron Lemen









The rest of these are all from either life or imagination, I'm sure it's obvious which are which



(this one was actually from a photo a friend sent me, the shell was from life though)




not sure where i was going with this... The horse was actually a quick sketch of a random little plastic horse toy on my windowsill

Just a quick portrait and a few 5/10 min poses

I've not used colour at all in far too long and just wanted to have a little fun with the portrait, especially as I did it just after 4 hours straight of cast drawing

The model for the portrait was a redhead with fair skin so of course I used orange

I don't have a scanner so the background got a little weird but whatever, I like it more this way!

I'm really enjoying school, it has its faults, as all places do, but I've learned an absolute tonne so far and I'm only 2 quarters down

Trying to be a bit more creative in these little portraits










full page 18*24", around 15mins, had to really work fast and loose for this one!


wish i had some more time on this one... oh yeah, and ignore the face


Gonna give this one to my grandparents for christmas Needs some work still though... Think I'm gonna soften the arm shadow, add some tone to the shirt area and darken the background. I don't really want to lose the hair into the background too much though, I like the s-curve gesture it's making... Gonna just have to be careful i guess

Just a little update this time

I never noticed before I saw it on the screen, but the head is too small in the middle pic... I kinda like the rest of it still though

The last pic was about 40 mins, first 20 being just lines and the second 20 working on rendering

The skull was from life, and the figures are a mix of life and one master copy

The clothed figures I did during jury duty, as well as the prud'hon copy

I haven't posted in ages... I'm no longer in school full time after having ran out of money, but I'm still in class once a week. Here's an old drawing from a David Kassan workshop, and 2 paintings

I'm finally at a point where I'm not totally embarrased of every painting I do

The paintings were both sketches done in one sitting for larger more finished versions, they're pretty small, only 8x10 inches

I did a bigger finished one of the red one, but I prefer the sketch really

For some reason it's really hard to take a good photo of a painting, but whatever

Nice updates and improvement. I think for your figure drawings, studying the structure of the skeleton will def help you to understand what you are drawing. I also notice with some of your 3/4 views, your noses seem a little big. That might just be me.
