I'm one of those guys who doesn't really do backgrounds/environments. I'm trying to change that. WIP thread can be found here.
After many months of painfully slow work, it's finished! The WIP thread for this piece can be found here.

Hey dude nice paintings, keep at it!
This was my entry for the 2010 Blizzcon Fan Art Contest. Alas I did not win anything.
This image depicts the last battle fought by the paladin Milabrega. After his untimely demise at the hands of the drowned carcasses of the Great Marsh his regalia was greedily pilfered by the forces of evil. It may yet find it's way into the hands of Sanctuary's would be saviors.
It was inspired by the low level item set 'Milabrega's Regalia'.
I put up a post hoc WIP of this piece showing a few in progress shots.

Wow. The finish on that last one is definitely an improvement from the other works I've seen from you. While there are always things to critique I think this is a good jumping point for you and I think you should start using this as an example of where you want your work to go.
I'm not saying always go flashy and have a glowing shield with lightning in the sky (pretty metal, though). But what I mean is work towards that finish- that extra time spent to work out the areas and make them not only appealing to the eye, but also work in a composition. You're showing that more here, and I think this should be a standard for you.
But you should also not neglect the earlier stages. I see some drawing errors here and a some size mis-matches that could have been solved. Pay attention to the sizes of thumbs and break down their structure a little bit more. Brush up even more on your human anatomy- look very critically at the sizes of things and the angles the angles muscle MASSES make. I think Hogarth is a great one to read from. I like his break down and simplification of form. If I'm not mistaken Bridgeman does the same kind of thing. Planar thinking!
Keep doing it man.

Thanks Quigleyer. I am trying to make this my new level of polish as I was really pleased with how it came out (and it took less time overall than my orc man hunter!).
You hit he nail on the head though, I need to spend more time on my pre-sketches and thumbs, and I need to spend more time learning and practicing my anatomy. I'll take a look at the books you mentioned.
One of my current projects is actually an older project that I've picked back up and oh man am I finding issues with it left and right! hahaha.
Cheers,

Somehow I got the idea to create a hybrid Bride/Ninja character. I've been kicking the idea around for a while now, but here is the final result.

I like your colors a lot of the Blizzcon piece. I think the face on the main guy is a little off though. Something about the ridge of the cheek and then the eye placement looks off. I'd also practice painting fabric, because you're getting better with it but the spaceman image has really strange looking folds.
I prefer the second color scheme on the bride with sword image.
You got some lovely pieces here. My favorites are the Blizzcon entry and the Dryad.

Hey Heavens, thanks for the comment. The two you mentioned are my two most recent compositions. While the bridal ninja was completed in between them, it was actually an older composition that was paused so I could do the blizzcon entry, and then resumed afterward.
I feel like I'm moving in a good direction com positionally. I've got a few ideas simmering on the stove, but we'll have to see how much time I have to work with them in the coming months, as I just became a daddy.![]()

Hey CA! It's been a while since I've posted, but it's not for lack of work! It's those pesky NDAs, much of what I've been up to I'm not allowed to show yet.
I did however manage to find time to do two entries into Blizzard's Portrait of a Champion Contest for Diablo 3!

The progression of your skills is evident in this thread. Something about your hands bother me though. I also feel that you are having some problems with facial features. I've noticed that you seem to be solving this by covering the faces of your characters with masks. Though it can be tedious and boring at times it will improve your work immensely to practice these things.
Good job overall. Keep up the hard work. I look forward to seeing more.
I just wanted to share a recently completed personal piece. I also threw together a little time lapse video of some progression shots I saved as I was working on it which can be found here.
Enjoy!
