•••"Faded Beauty Still Shines" is pretty much self-explanatory. It obviously refers to the fact that not only all that is shiny, fresh and new can be beautiful. True beauty transcends cliché and surface polish, and exists in all things used, old, worn, or even discarded. An old woman of 90 and a forgotten 500-year-old city in ruins can possess the same, or even greater, beauty that seems so obvious in a young fashion model or a modern flashy city center. As artists, we may have an advantage here, since we accept this as something perfectly normal. Impressing the Ladies without doing a hacky sentimental piece, therefore, is going to be a real challenge with this topic.

Here is my first image for Faded Beauty Still Shines. My thinking for this piece was king was waiting for his queen, and would stay resolute till she was by his side, no matter how much time eroded away. Hope you like it.
EDIT: I just wrapped up my 2nd image. I still wanted to take it a lot further, but here is where it is. I took images of the Dust Bowl as inspiration. People had to live in such a desolate area and time period that they had to do what they could to keep their hopes up. If you Google dust bowl, you can see it on their faces, and I saw that as beautiful. Enjoy.

Reason: Adding 2nd Image.
The statue has lost its charm to the inhabitants of the city, but once in a while, even on a cold autumn day, a ray of afternoon light can bring back the beauty on its pocked marble face. Corny, i know, but it's the direction i wanted to take this.
i ended up spending loads of time on this ... wanted to work on this much more still as it turned out to become a much more personal piece ...
Title : faded beauty still shines
concept : ( matte painting ) to discover the world and not just to be ,
finding what we are looking for , our destiny ,
stumbling upon rather its faded beauty ,
to discover the world , and not just to be ....
sculpting it took an entire eternity ,
faded with a scars of history ,
to discover the world , and not just to be ....
for a more shallow meaning ; there's a whole world out there , get out and see its beauty, specially as an artist who exists only to skillfully observe
Mine. When I read the topic, I immediately thought of this poem by the missus, so thought I'd use this opportunity to illustrate it. The tree was inspired by an art nouveau mirror.
It's about 7:30 PM in Hawaii. God bless them pineapple heads and their slow time.
Nothing more beautiful than growing old with the person you love. True love has a beauty that will shine for eternity. Even though this is a battle, men and women still come together all the time for the sake of love. But love has no gender boundaries. Love binds us all.
EDIT: I wanted to represent my generation as elderly btw.
"Astronomy offers an aesthetic indulgence not duplicated in any other field. This is not an academic or hypothetical attraction and should require no apologies, for the beauty to be found in the skies has been universally appreciated for unrecorded centuries."

Great minds think alike, Bucky...
Okay everybody...
I'm going to be finished with mine (vector) in about 2.5 hours, but I'm going to be too shitty to make the transfer to PS until I get at least a couple of hours sleep (...sorry...I'm old...). That means mine is not going to be posted til tomorrow earlyish morning sometime (after 9:00 probably or a bit later), so if you need a bit of grace time, blame it on me. If you get in more than an hour or so after me, though, it's going to be iffy, so keep that in mind. I WILL need some time to make the transfer and ID prep on everything, so if you're close and you can alert me, go for it and we'll work out what's what after.

There's a homeless man who I've seen a few times on Fisherman's Wharf, he's always screeching away on this broken violin that cant have more than 2 strings. He's always really enthusiastic about it though, so I guess he was my inspiration for this. I was going to have this guy look goofier and add a broken string to the guitar, but I decided to get rid of all that and just go with the enthusiasm.
I sketched this up last month and some how forgot about the contest until an hour ago, about 1am to be precise. It could us some more work, but it's submittable. I'll show you the original sketch and an hour of photoshop later.
