Hi CA! Thanks for looking at my sketchbook!

Thanks so much for the warm welcome. The top one was inspired by the part of the movie "V for Vendetta" after V fedex's everyone in london masks and capes. That image is todays work, everything else is a bit older and from life.

Both of these are brand spanking new. The first one took me 2 1/2 hours last night and kinda looks stiff. The one of my dog took me 10 min and is my favorite. This kinda sums up what I am hoping to fix about my concept work, I would like it to have the same spontaneous feeling as my gestures. Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Well I was pretty unhappy with the girl I drew yesterday so I decided to take another pass at the image with an emphasis on loosening the gesture and rendering. Let me know what you think.

I do enjoy your rendering capability - my only suggestion is that she's a little disproportionate, unless that's intentional. In that case, i'll shut up.
If it were socially acceptable - I'd wear a cape.

BillyDead: yeah the proportions are a off on the head and hips and chest and that wasnt intentional, the hands and arms are stretched intentionally, but I should have done the same thing in the face so it felt more intentional. I am going to be taking another crack or 2 at this subject so keep an eye out and let me know if you think it is improving.

Envisor: Thanks for keeping up with the thread. I hope you like today's stuff

I havent quite finished what I was working on last night so in the meantime here are some Zoo pictures done from life last summer.

These are wonderful! You know what you're doing. Animal gestures are quite nice. And your concepts are sophisticated. Keep doing what you're doing. I'ts all about mileage and explorations. Welcome!

Really digging these sketches, mate. Especially the quicker ones, animals/profile of the standing guy w/glasses. I agree with Aztc, now it's all about the mileage and controlling the energy. 30 minutes a day will mean an hour a day, and then two, and then 5... keep it up man, it's looking good.

Very cool sketches! I love the shadings you make, continue and update every day! (Damn if only I had the same resolution as you...)
I know it may seem stupid, but I can't find, how you can put an image near your sketchbook thread. Thanks anyway.

I like your lines. Nice and loose. You manage to convey the image with a few lines and a bit of rendering. Very nicely done

So last night I was trying to think of what to draw for my update today and couldent come up with anything so I started drawing my dog. My dog is 7months old and was in a wiggly sort of mood so I couldent get a strong gesture and by the time I gave up on him my whole page was covered in little dog-like lines. I started staring at them and it sorta formed into the shape of this guy, so I erased everything that wasnt the guy and drew in some of the mising information and came up with this.

    Nice werk!

I really how you can convey so much volume and form with your 'messy' hatching. Those zoo pictures are pretty cool, too.

My only suggestion would be to post sommore completed works. Something you've invested a lot of time+energy into.

    Keep up tha good work!

Bunny: good point I dont think I have finished anything in years. I will focus on doing that.

I had a bookbinding class this weekend and I am really excited for my upcoming project. I am going to build my ultimate sketchbook! I will keep you posted on how it turns out. My class inspired me to do the image of the books flting around. The rest of the images are older stuff based on my WoW character that is currently collecting dust.

Updated alot I see. I absolutely love the animals and the life sessions are really cool. Would like to see some more dynamic figures in your characters. It is something that I need to work on as well, and it would be helpful to see someone of your skill to portray that for me.

The lighting is fantastic, there's birds, and everything has some character to it. I like this thread. My only crit is that I'd like to see some painted up things here.

you've already got great drawing skill, but more couldn't hurt. Go out and look for things to stimulate your imagination. Read more books, watch movies, and look at other artists work to get inspired. take bits and pieces of things you like and combine them into concepts of your own. when drawing from your imagination, it helps to have something to spark the fire, and really get you juices flowing.

    Talking Wicked

    Nice work.

I love your style in every piece.
that one with the man with the hair pulled back and the start of his pet or a beast looks like it really could be an intresting piece.

    keep it up!
