Hey man, LOVE your progress. You've improved so much since that first self-portrait.

Simple studies and (of course) practice will get you tons better at drawing from imagination. And when you add value to those, try to imagine the shading as depth, not color. Don't be afraid of it either. There's a happy medium

Keep up the great work! You're really showing improvement.

NicG - OK, you start all my pages K?

007 - Thanks man, I appreciate the kind words. It feels like its progressing from those first self portraits but of course, no progress is fast enough!! Please come again. *Indian accent

Karein - Thanks Karein. I have been doing some studies, I just didn't want to bore people with them. Here are some.

JHR2 - Thanks Matty. I get really happy with my digitals 'cause Im new to it, then I log onto CA.org, then I get really brought back to earth by all the AWESOME work here!!!

Granny - Haha. Thanks Granny. I wonder if Id even come to CA.org if you weren't around. Hmmmmmm. Manley needs to pay you a retainer I reckons.

Im sure you guys know what is what - some Bridgeman, Loomis and Tattoo style cherry blossoms and dragon. Crappy scans, sorry

Your Bridgman studies are really very clean, they look great. I'm not great at crits, but I would watch how you put down some of your figures, The weight distibutuion on some of them look a little off. Take the second woman for example, She looks like if she put any more weight on her right foot she would topple over.
But it is great to see some studies, doesn't matter if they are boring, it's a sure fire way to see improvement. Your going great though, so keep pushing

That cat!!!! It lured me into your sketchbook! D:

Nice bridgeman studies and selfportraits. You seem to be getting shapes and form down pretty well. watch your saturation in your digital paintings. Seems a bit strong. More studies in colour and light (and not just from photos, but from life - apples! everyone draws apples!) and you'll get an understanding of that more.

You have a very consistent likeness in your self portraits. I like the goofy happy expression with the light saber portrait. One suggestion for the background you can experiment with the texture or dark gradient to draw more interest. Realistically it's rare to have one flat color for an environment.

Karein - Thanks for visiting again. Pressed for time but I know I need to do heaps of studies. Im doing more now, thanks for the advice.

Ink fish - Because I can't really draw yet, Ive employed marketing strategies like the cat avatar to lure people to my book. Heh heh, I glad it worked. Thanks for the advice, Im trying to learn more about color.

007 - thanks for stopping by man.

Pigeonkill - Goofy??? But that's how I always look. Thanks mate, I never gave backgrounds the attention they need, Im trying to improve that.

Jamesy - Hey Jamesy, thanks for stopping by. Its good to break out of the Self Portrait sub-forum.

Nic G - Hey Nicky, I love Japanese Tattoo style dragons. I have one living on my shoulder.

I bought a medical study skull a while back and Ive sketched it in pencil before but this is the first crack at Photoshop.

Those sketches are GREAT! Awesome skull too!

Thanks for the tsunami heads up a couple of weeks ago too. Haha, funny that, yes I live very close to the cost... in fact I walked down to the beach at that exact time it was supposed to hit... nothing. Lol, not that I expected anything, it was low tide, and there's a sort or reef at our beach anyway! I thought it was funny... then of course I come back and hear the numbers that where killed in Samoa.

    Anyway, cool stuff jigje,
    Cheers,
    matt

The structures look pretty good - nice sense of three-dimensionality. Your colors are what's bothering me. You've got what I'm guessing is a white light on a pale yellow skull with a red backdrop. I think the skull looks way too yellow, with no real variation in color. The dark parts of the skull are just a darker yellow, when they should be leaning toward the opposite temperature of the light source. Also, there should be more red bounce light coming from the surroundings and affecting the skull.

you can stop being totally awesome now!!!!!

Nice work man, you learn so fast!!!
my only advice is to watch the texture of some things--some things look overly smooth and don't mesh well with the texture of the rest of the subjects in the paintings. simple fixes
hope all is well my friend!

The skull came out pretty nice. My only suggestion is to take it easy on the saturation of the yellow, which seems a bit strong. Skulls tend to be more pastel subdued chalk like colors. The yellow/red contrasting colors was a good call though.

Nice sketchbook. I checked out your self-portrait thread also, a good spread of media building and improvement in technique and/or confidence is obvious. I think the sp wearing woolly hat stands out, all the knitted loops - that's devotion!
