I love your rendition of David, stylized and not exactly the same but I think that was your intention. The rendering on that one is amazing. Congrats!
Stop by my sketchbook please, sharing comments will help us all!![]()
I agree, I like the rendition of David. Do you know WHY the head of Michaelangelo's David is too big and the feet are too small?
--edit-- Judging by the fact that you seem to have fixed those two minor issues (which were actually done on purpose) is it safe to assume you dont know the history behind it?

Haha, you're both giving me too much credit. I tried to copy it as accurately as I could, at least in the ~3 hours I spent on it. Any stylization or correction is just me sucking.I don't know any history about why Michelangelo might have intentionally skewed the proportions.
Thanks for the comments, though!

I thought you were putting us on... all the heads and figures at the beginning looked like rendered 3D models
But then I saw your beautifully flowing lines. Wow. Nice one, man.
Great start.

Well, what can I say - AMAZING rendering skills!![]()
Damn man, you've got skills! Really good value control and rendering, and for all the minor proportion problems that David looks great.
Killer values n lighting man! Some of those character profiles show alot of mass and volume.which takes alot!
I would just suggest to work for more loose brushwork. heavily worked peices can potentially become sterile
I will be watching you to
cheers.
C&C welcome![]()

Strong grasp of forms w/ values...The David is done well, however you might want to rotate him a bit to plant him more solidly... pit of neck line up w/ the heel.
p sage: Thanks very much!
PxelSlayer: Thank you!
Sidharth Chaturvedi: Thanks!
AK86: Thanks. Yeah, good advice; I do tend to overwork my stuff. That painterly effect (which you do well) takes a lot of skill to get right, and I'd like to try to incorporate more of that, but at the same time, working something to death always teaches me a ton, even if the piece looks like shit when it's done. I love painterly art, though.
Chaser226: Thanks. Yeah, that David has problems. I wish it wasn't the thumbnail for this thread, lol.
I keep meaning to update this. Here's some more recent junk. Really need to go out and buy a scanner; these are all digis again. Thanks for looking!
I love your rendering man. Keep it up. Your values are really great in all your pieces.
Nice SB man, maybe you could work a little more on the eyes. And I want to see more enviro (because the little you've got look really nice !)
great start! keep practising and draw lots and lots from life.
just another echo of these guys, but super slick rendering! just keep up the observational studies which will really strenghthen your character work!![]()
Wow, this sketchbook rocks! A the other said, the rendering is just amazing!
Keep it up man!

Rushlord: Thanks! I've been trying to get my rendering decent for months; I'm glad you think it's not horrendous (because it was recently, haha)
Mark Tarrisse: Thank you v much. Environments aren't my strong suit; I really do need to do more. They're so much fun, too...
Kfeeras : Thank you!
Smokenmirrors: Thx v much! I am a fan of yours, as you know. Yeah, need more observational work, yes indeed.
Spaggen: Thx a ton (x2, haha)
Gonna try to update this more. Here's something I did yesterday. Copy of Bouguereau's portrait of Gabrielle Cot. What a kick in the ass this was. Very humbling.![]()
Excellent goblin in post #10. Need more postings![]()

Holy shit. Nice update. I wonder what kind of brush you used on this one and what adjustments.
Some gorgeous stuff in here!
There's a really nice quality to your paintings. Keep up the studies too, they will help. It feels like the group of heads you posted all have the same facial structure and a very similar set of features, especially the nose. The Bouguereau study looks awesome though keep it up.
Do I see new stuff since i was here, it seems ages ago?
I'm liking it - I've seen a few things in digital art that I gotta say look decent. Some of it even inspired me to plug my tablet back in (USB ftw!) so maybe I'll do some stuff with it and post. Who knows.

p sage: Thanks, and you're right.
jatherip: Thank you. I agree that anatomy studies are helpful, and you can never do too many. Lest you think I'm slacking in that regard, though, I hasten to add that I've got like 14 sketchbooks of nothing but sitting in my closet! I swear I'm not slacking!
Rushlord: Thanks a ton! I'm just using the standard squarish chalk brush in photoshop, or the ovoid brush, on normal mode with flow and opacity set to pen pressure. Sometimes I do a pass with a fuzzy airbrush to smooth out brush-strokes. Nothing fancy, though.
DeeStar: Thank you very much.
Pyroclasm00: Thank you, and thanks for the great crit. You're right, of course; I'm embarrassed looking at those, now. I went and drew like 200 noses after reading that, lol. So embarrassing.
hitnrun: Thanks!
Here's another Bouguereau study.
Sweet new study. I love your brushwork. I need to practice more![]()
I really fell in love with your Bouguereau studies... colours look perfect!
the colors on the last study is gorgeous!
keep up the good work![]()
Rushlord: Thanks. Me too.
AvisNocturna: Thank you.
phucci: Thanks.
Thanks for the comments, guise. I guess I should post some wips in here, so I can legitimately call this a 'sketch' book. So here's a wip of a goblin. Another one, I mean. I have a slight fetish for drawing them.
You have a nice sense of form. The Goblins are cool. WB's one of my favorites.
nice studies keep up
