hi guys,

browsin' through this forum made me clear, that i have to draw more digitally. some sketchbooks are so inspiring and pushing. there are quite a few styles that i admire.

thnanks for all the inspiration..

as you can see i have severe problems concerning colour and building up an composition.. too often my pieces look flat or don't come together in a strange way..
so i would be pleased as hell to hear some critique from you guys-

wtf?! i did it again
seriously guys, i just changed the width of all these pic to 25cm;
and the birds and the turtle seem to don't bother my effort;
does anyone know why?

is just feel the urge to show some analog stuff i did a while ago. i apply them with wheatpaste on the street. maybe if you live in austria/vienna you've seen one.

The studies are looking good. The more you do of those the better. Some of the images u uploaded are pretty big in size, it would be good to shrink it down so we dont have to scroll about to see it.
Anyway back to the art itself. It looks like colour can be a bit of problem sometimes, you do it well in studies like the self portrait. So perhaps focus on transferring the the believable colouring you have in the studies into the unreferenced work at some point.

have been working on university-assignments a lot. have been doodeling and fiddling now and then, though nevber took the time to upload some things.
so i intend to show a little more of my work. geez it has been over 3years i've posted. shame over me. i hope i won't let such a break happn again.

i did a portrait of my girlfriend today and heres the finished piece. done in apprxmtly 4hours from a foto. she doesn't look like her at all i'm not very happy with the result but good it was done nevertheless. =)
the submarine-piece was done in 45min. trying out some brushes and tweaking them. fun.

Hey man, thanks for stopping by First thing - post your images smaller. Not only they load slow, but it's more pleasant to look at them if you dont do ultra detailed pieces. And to your artworks - they are really good! Just don't use color picker when you are doing studies. You learn nothing by it and your imagination stuff will not improve. Try to guess colors and adjust it if it's not right on the first try. Anyway as I said, good works, keep them coming (more often ideally!)

i try to take them as small as possible usually havin these values: 150dpi, one side of rectangle 10cm. thats my honky rough rule of thumb. should i get even smaller.??

At times the texture brush you use doesn't work out - the most obvious example is the second portrait of 24 Feb.

Dpi does not really matter. What is importat are pixel dimensions. For posting here at ca.org I post pictures not larger than cca 1000px on the longest side. But What I usually do is zoom out in photoshop to exact size as I want the picture be, and then set the zoom % to the save for web form. This way you'll know exactly how it will look on monitor. And by the way, I posted the links you wanted on my sketchbook page

i especially like the sites designed to speed-paint and the timer built in- haha didnt know that such things existed. PERFEKT!

i'm doing a cover for a LP a friend of me is producing. h's hip-hopper and brings truth to us humble humans by rapping about the truth. =) very critical textes and a charming young man he is.
i put a lot of effort into shading the skin of the hand. and the whole image. i'm somehow not so sure about it. It appears ro me to be super-kitsch =) i'm thinking about adding a wervolfer riding a pony jumping over a fence in moonlight. but... nah.
i have to redo the handcuffs, they're a bit wacky.

i did some speed-sketching. 5min each. when the form is readable more or less i always tend to block in values in a very rude way.
maybe i should concentrate more on getting the posture right. hmm.

i sure have the feeling it's a very good thing, that i do these speedies. got a bit rusty during my industrial design studies.
at the beginning it was like: oh i can draw. now to some different topics like modelling in 3D.
so back on the drop. and soon starting again with color. also how to blend with your brushes and add texture is a big challenge for me. =)

it's so crazy.. value, hue, saturation. it defenitely is a concept not easy to grasp.

Hey Lupre, thanks for stooping by my sb, sorry its taken so long for a reply. Loving the effort so far dude, you're mixing stuff up well and your figures are coming along nicely. Couple of things that will help you: 1, start drawing more from life, just set stuff up on your desk. i know its limited and you cant draw otters and octopuses and cool stuff like that but you will have a much better understanding of light and your relationship with form will improve much faster and more naturally. Also give colour a break for a while and work on your value. Values are the important thing, at this point in time i think you would be much more efficient in learning with strait greyscale. Hue and saturation can come later, honestly there not even that important.

hey guys.
i had the craziest week. you don't have any idea..
1. my hdd with 3tb crashed. (it was not the disk with my system) all my work from university from last term was there, my musik, my fotos and the data from my desktop was temporarily there because i wanted to reset the system on a ssd. so all my digital paintings have been there and are now gone. hmm. i don't feel any emotion about that anymore. i'm through with that. cried for the last days

2. i sincerley thought i had lost my concept-art account. when the updating to the new server happened, i couldn't log in anymore. i tried to reset my password, didn't receive any mails. none of my usual passwords worked, i couldn't explain it at all. i wrote several mails, to the webmasters of this page. no mail came through because of spam-issues.
however today i tried it again, and finally i got a mail back. =)

so i'm back on track. hopefully such thing never ever is going to happen again.
