Zeph's sketchbook from the grave (check out the later stuff!).

Hi guys. Been a while! I haven't actually posted to this thread in over 3 years now.. haha. I want to get back into this community actively, so I'll be updating this thread in the next few days with more recent things. I'll probably backlog some things just so I can show a better idea of more recent progression.

I want to leave the old stuff here just for the sake of showing the time gap. It's unfortunate, but I didn't work as hard as I could over this period of time. Only recently am I really getting into the habits of an artist, and it feels pretty good! I have a lot of life drawing stuff as I'm going along Vilppu's Manual/DVD, but I need to scan that stuff in.

Glad to have the forums back to normalcy so I can get this up and running!

    From top to bottom:
    1. Taken from this month's Juxtapoz, Mac. The shading is smoother in person, I swear.
    2. Self-portrait done in pastel last semester.
    3. Line-based design done with ink last semester.
    4. Digital painting of a peach.

Beast of an update here, I've been lurking around, but haven't updated my sketchbook here lately with what I've been doing. Figured since I'm working towards Ringling in 2010, the more feedback, the better.

    Just a few notes:
-Some of the hands are Bridgman studies. Should be obvious which.
-The charcoal figure near the end was done with burned wood from the fireplace, in order for me to get out of my comfort zone a little.
-The eye was done in acrylic, I -just- started learning acrylic (2-3 sessions with an artist I know), this was done after the first session, so it's not perfect by any means.

    Thanks for stopping by/hopefully commenting!

These were just a couple of quick brainstormed environments. I'm pretty new at environment creating, so they still lack a bit.

Another hand, more gestures (that aren't my best, unfortunately), and a quick from-imagination sketch.

More stuff! I really should update here more regularly so I can get some good crit's. Been on a bit of an ink trip lately. Appreciate any and all input, so please, if you like anything of what you see, let me know!

    Let's see..
    A. A crow and a raven! Never drawn birds before, see lots of birds done rather well in ink around here, so figured I'd try my hand at it.
    B. A quick self-portrait. I wanted to use a minimal amount of lines throughout the sketch and try and still maintain the definition of the image.
    C. Just a hand with a bit of hatching/shading with ink.
    D. My take on some Reiley method stuff I ran across on a blog.
E & F. Random rock poses, tried to capture a bit of energy rather than define form. For D, I didn't want to even define hands, which I thought ended up looking pretty good.
    G. Random hand, was waiting for a class.
    H. Recent idea for defining form based on topographical maps and a few pieces I caught wind of at an art school inside a classroom. Came to my attention thanks to a sharp-eye'd crit that I should probably pull it back on the finger tips to not make them appear pointy.

These are a mess to organize, but this is a few things that happened last year or towards the front of this year. Forgive me for these not being resized properly! ><

Wow, that ended up being a mess. But thanks to those who scroll down to see the newer things! I'm actually going to TAD this spring, and I'm pretty excited about that. Crits/comments appreciated, and I will gladly do the same for you.

Not enough of them. I still need to do more from reference I think. I still feel like I'd be going in blind for the most part, haha. Thanks though!
