    Darkworld WIP

painting im working on, related to Darkworld game project. The guy just beaten up a undead or some kind of creature...hes picking up his sword that he dropped during the fight, finished the beast with his fists! :P this is just first composition pass

need to work face of the guy cause i dont like it, during painting i will desaturate the blood color..too bright and red, but i still want kind of saturated colors even in dark setting

any crits and suggestion welcome :P im not used to making complete images hehe

some more work, reorganizing things, desaturated the colore scheme. went for much darker and blueish...i think ima jump to polishing now, gonna try and make it really polished...another thing im not quite used to, i usually keep things sketchy...like the way it is now lol

Shouldn't he be looking at the sword, rather than the viewer?

    face

yes i thought about that too...well i dont know, maybe I should change that..or maybe i should leave it that way.. dont need to look at what he wants to pick up, you know irl, when we want something, we dont need to look at it directly to know where it is. But ill consider this...nyways, i think it wont chnage much to the pic unless more people think this way, ill ask a couple teamate on that darkworld project, see what they think too.

    thanks for comment!

I don't know that's really true. If I want to pick up something, especially something dangerous like a knife (or the swords most people use ), I usually look at my hand. The only time I wouldn't is if my attention is fixed on something else, and I don't want to take my eyes off it. For a warrior like this that would have to be some sort of threat, but you've already said the threat is taken care of.

But more importantly here is the artistic reasoning. There's only one action taking place in this image, and that's him kneeling to pick up his sword. If you don't highlight the action, and the viewer's eyes will follow the subjects mostly, then it ends up as a static pose without much going on. Up to you if you do change it or not, of course, but I think there's good reason to do so.

    modif

here i thought about this...cause i just couldnt do the face right again -_- worked 5 hours reworked the face like 20-30 times and still was always crappy looking. So came up with another solution so i can finish this piece one day you know what you think? now he has the sword picked up, and looking at whatever you want more zombies coming or maybe just looking into the distance, ill try and make a better composition for next piece, so ill finish this up once and for all and start on something else i have in mind thanks for comment, i really know what you mean...and i wish i could have the patience to fix it hehe, but i really only wanted to practice *polish* skills in here, sure i dont want to put evertything else aside, but for this one, ill keep going this way hehe

also i fixed a leg problem in the psd but forgot to upload it..bah will be in next more major update

Yeah, having the sword in his hand, like he just picked it up, is just what you needed. It also adds a diagonal to the composition, which is always good. This way the kneeling makes it look more like he's weary and drained from the battle, and he's taking time before getting back to his feet again, probably looking into the distance.

In that case, then the expression you do can really add to the piece a lot. Capitalize on that feeling of just having finished a hard battle, and some combination of pain and weariness, and I think you've got a winner.

    wip crit

yeah, looks alrdy much better this way, wish i woulde been able to do first idea though, but, like I said..my point for doing this was trying to make something polished and finished...today im starting over by desaturating everything and make more shadows and lightinng in greys only. then ill add colors, and redefine even more. i went into coloring too fast
