Here is a wip of the good version of a goblin paladin/cavalier proudly trotting through the forest on his faithful riding dog .
I'll throw up some more ideas/wips as soon as I can. This brief is too fun
Later,
Adam

Ok, here are some sketches to start things off. We are thinking of doing a goblin paladin/dark knight and an undead litch/priest.
I'm gonna do a few sketches of the undead guy (good and bad), then sketch some goblin goodness.
Here is a real rough WIP of the undead priest. I'm not sure about the direction this one is taking
Here is a pose sketch for the bad goblin
Did a little quick sketch for the evil goblin also.

Good goblin sketch....... do folks smoke cigars in fantasy settings? lol
Adam, here is my quick version of your good goblin rider. I havent been able to spend as much time working today as I would have liked. Ive basically been doing things in short spurts. I think we should decide on our final pieces tonight so we can get them done in time.
Great work guys! cant wait to see the finals.
Sourgasm & PowleyMan - thanks for the comments glad you are liking our silliness so far
got a bit more done on the good goblin pic today. We definitely need to decide which one of us is doing what for the sake of time![]()
Anyway here is what I got done today... just fooling around with colors at this point... they are going to change quite a bit before I'm done.

Another WIP of the undead priest. I'm starting out in gray scale this time. This seems to work well for other people. I have no idea what I'm doing in general, so I figure if I try a whole lot of methods, something might work for me. If nothing else, it's good practice. Sometimes it is frustrating being a total noob at art![]()
I'll post more updates soon.
Adam, your good goblin is coming along nicely. I like the beginnings of your rendering on the armor; it's a good start!
If I was going to pick a WIP I have done that I think would make a good final, it would be the evil undead version. Are you definitely doing the good goblin? If so, I will either do both undead versions or both evil versions. Or, I could try to come up with a good undead that is decent, and then do the evil goblin.
Do you have any WIPs of the undead guy? If one of your undead guys is kick ass, that would help narrow it down.
Small update. Been screwin around with shape tools and masks in photoshop. Not really sure what I'm doing but I may keep this background anyways.![]()
adam you bastard!
you are improving far too fast! looking great man
Another small update. I'm trying to get an idea of what the costume will look like. Does this still say priest? ....maybe?...sort of?
I want to have him coming across as defiant; almost like he is standing in the face of a super powerful enemy.
I've gotten a bit more done on the evil goblin.

undead priest update:
Well, I have been screwing around trying to learn how to color a grayscale image. I only colored the head because it is the only sort of rendered area of the picture. The rest of the character just doesnt have the value range needed to use this coloring method effectively yet. I'm sure that will improve after I render the rest of the figure, but I'm kind of nervous about things looking washed out or too black because I cant render values very well. I think I'm going to finish this one for our final so at least I have time to experiment with this particular image (or paint over the problem areas). The evil undead should go a little faster.
Last edited by NoShot; August 25th, 2009 at 10:15 PM. Reason: repositioned his left arm slightly
update: Adding some color. I think the head is about as fully rendered as my ability will allow. If I can render the rest of the figure with the same quality, I think I will be happy with my efforts. I think I'm improving, but it could be that I've just been staring at this too long![]()
Yet another update on the same character. I scrapped the background and have this as a placeholder until I figure out what to do. Still some work to do on the figure, but I think this is probably about 90% rendered.
I'm gonna start working on the evil version and come back to this one later.
Trevor, thanks a bunch man! Feels like if I keep on trying maybe I'll get to awesome some day
Got a little bit done this morning thought I would throw up an update. Decided to put them up side by side, because it's what all the cool kids are doing.

Changed up the background for the evil undead character. It is just roughly blocked in right now, but I think I am going to leave it a bit soft on the edges to really bring out the character. The character is going to have a costume too, but I'm still trying to figure out what that will be![]()
Small update on good gobbo... not sure if I like the dark eyes or not...

Adam well done! i love the armor on the evil goblin and the second background with the good guy is looking better than the first. i think the white eyes gave more of a feeling of good than the black. just as the red feels evil for the bad guy.
Update on the good guy:
Well the perspective is off, but I think I'm gonna roll with this anyways because I will never get it finished if I keep screwing around with the background. I'm going to tighten things up on the figure and do a little more coloring, but not much more on this one. Oh well, it was good practice anywayI'm going to get to work on the evil guy again.
Edit: I think this is the final. There are some things I should change, but I need the time to work on the evil version.

Adam, I will try to work on some story/background ideas that I will mail to you. I will definitely need your help on refining my story ideas cause you have more experience in this genre etc. Hopefully, I can come up with something cool to start with though![]()
Evil update: The staff is just a placeholder though I may use the sort of conjoined bone idea. There is not much new content in this update, but I wanted to get your opinion on whether the soft background will work as is for the final. I guess it doesnt matter much cause I cant spend more time on the background anyways![]()
Adam, here are my final images so that you can submit to the final thread; each one is 660 X 990 px.
It was fun but I'm sick of looking at these things lol. Next time we will have to start early rather than wait until the week before they are due![]()
