New figure paintings! Two new drawings Aug 20

hey everyone... here are a couple of figure paintings and color studies done in oils. These were done at the next gen atelier.

I'm doing a streaming presentation this Saturday August 22nd. If you're interested you can find more information here!

sonja was the model for this painting, and yes that's CA's own dirty c in the background! The carpet drove me to the brink of insanity.

O_O...you just blew my mind Whit. It's crazy how good you are. I especially love the last painting and how you handled the fabric and the pattern on the carpet in perspective.

How big are these paintings and what surface are you working on?.. if you don't mind me asking...

The knees in the second painting is the most beautiful thing out of all of them. Everything is well done, but those knees...

(may possibly have a bit of a knee fetish because of that painting)

edit: Also, I feel you lost a bit compositionally from transferring the paint sketch of her to the final, I think it's mostly the space above her head, also the generally overall warmth was nice, but the final has it's own thing going on color wise.

...eeehhhh...I really have to disagree here. The final piece is head and shoulders above the sketch. The nearly perfect vertical balance of the white sink, contained figure and white blocks on the rug is an incredibly effective use of composition that really slams our attention to the situation/environment in two or three visual "stages" rather than seeing the model first (and above all else) and then forcing oneself to look away from her to other areas. IMHO, this is a near-perfect painting.

Also, the slight leftward tilt of the body gives implied action to what would otherwise be (and is, in the sketch) a very still pose. Beautiful work, Whit. What kind of palette are you using for these? Just earths?
