Really wicked work Randis, and those oil paintings are sweet too; this is the first time I've seen your traditional stuff I think
This is absolutely the best thing I've seen here in months. Such simplicity, yet the placement and composition draws me in so well. Lot of artists do women figures and exploit the feminine features in order to grab the viewer and force them into the form to consider the level of beauty. Combine that with the fact that you are working on canvas is really interesting to me. It just shows that sometimes things can turn out better on canvas.
WOO-HOO!
Hi Randis,
found you at Google and spent hours to read this thread. Love to see line art again like in the painting above. I like it much more than the digital stuff. If I am allowed, I'll post the Spawn you did for me in the 90ies.
Greetings from Mannheim

phew been following on deviantart about years and now found here too and checked all stuff again.. your all works are amazing gogo sub
RANDIS!
Amazing. I've just spent the last couple days reading through this thread, and I must say, best sketchbook ever. Not only in terms of a talented, seasoned, experimental book that strikes out at every style, taming the world of concept art a piece at a time, but I love how you've shared your life here. One of the things that got me posting again was a need for a community in my creative life, and so I thank you for opening up your world to us here. Love the cats, I'm a cat person myself, and I must say those are BADASS cats, man. Tell your girl she's lovely, and to keep practicing-I'm teaching my GF to draw as well, though she's so self-conscious about posting.
Thank you as well for the artistic direction you're giving back to this community. I just started checking out your tutorial vids on FB, and they're great, but what really struck me were your occasional monologues about learning and the nature of what you do. I am just coming back to art seriously after a hiatus of a few years, starting my studies all over again, and trying to find a new direction, so, for me your words helped shape a blueprint I am developing in order to get good again as fast as possible. You've really inspired me to begin testing my imagination, and building my conceptualizing skills again. Similar to your path, I learned how to draw from comics, especially Marvel and Image, so, while I have a lot of habits that had to be broken, the artists from those studios (and others) have forever had an imprint on my strokes. Jim Lee, Art Adams and J. Scott Campbell for sure. Later, Mike Mignola, so I was psyched to see your Hellboy.
Finally, the art is amazing. I would use the word prolific, a word that gets overused, but in your case I think its merited. I love the range from the super realistic to the crazy anime. You're like the visual equivalent of the band WEEN, and I wouldn't say that with a light heart.
Anyway, thanks for listening, keep doing what you're doing, and I'll be watching for a long time.
Mike

Haha, I love Blanka's face in the background. Nice sketch.
Old stuff by Randis. Look at the muscles! This isn't fanart. The details are even better than McFarlane's or Capullo's Spawn-Sketches.
