This is maya. The hero of my Metal Skin comic. It's about time she entered a contest (painted specifically for the contest). Took two days - about 14 hours in total.

I've never owned a wacom so it would be cool to own one. I'm currently using a 4x3" Genius.

Serena's Sealing
I wanted to do a painting of Serena's sealing. That is the process through which she gained her powers, so i did.
(serena is my dominance wars character by the way).

It took about sixteen hours in total. I get the feeling if i try to add anymore to it i might just ruin it, either that or i'm just feeling lazy which also seems to be a good reason for me to declair it finished.

After trying out a couple of designs for about 45 minutes & failing to come-up with something tangible I decided to ditch the Robo chick & start something new for the digital artist contest. I thought it was about time a drew a samurai, so here she is

I barely ever use custom brushes, infact i've made it a point to avoid them over the last two years or so that i've been using photoshop, note that everything i coloured before that was in paintshop pro 7 which is so much easier to work in, back then the concept of layers was wasted on me, now i can't seem to get enough of them or layer masks for that matter, although i'm begining to think this might be a bad thing. Anyways, i figure if i'm gonna get my art to progress i'll have walk up that alley sooner or later so what the heck, i might as well try it out, last week i discovered that if i applied angle jittler & just a bit of scattering on chalk brush #60 i get a pretty nice looking result so i decided to put it to the test & surprisingly it's not all that hard to work with. After adding a bit of detail to the skirt i decided it would be a good idea to get started on the background, i want a wooden floor so i added some lines to that end, i have no knowledge of perspective so if things are out of place please let me know.

I also thought it might be cool to try out some reflections & i think they look nice, but i'll have my work cut out for me if i got in that direction, oh well, why the hell not.

For suggestion, you may try to do some more figure drawing with reference photo. This can help learn the anatomy. This can help better express your creative idea on the painting. Keep posting and show us more~~

The first one's for the speed painting contest on 3dtotal.com, just massin about with a custom brush for an hour, it's supposed to be a girlfriends vs buds thing but not everyone might get it (probably think he's got some sort of fetish or something) , i'll try another composition so it makes more sence, with an actual guy and a chick in it. the other two is just messing about

Thanks for dropping by my SB. You know, you're right. I could sure use for more time spent on making more digital stuff. Lately, it's all been traditional stuff.

Anyways, like corza mentioned earlier, more anatomy would help out a lot. I think your figures are pretty good so far, especially since you're not really doing many anatomy studies. You seem to have a pretty decent grasp on colors which is good. Some color theory would help no doubt.

Keep rockin and I'm sure it'll help you get out of Zambia in no time!

I wasn't happy with the original chair she was in so i designed another one. I feel much better about this one, did some more detailing on the reflections, shoes & the armor on her leg, also painted the chair.

Abrodos thanks man, speaking of photo references - guess what i'm uploading today? That's right, a painting i did using a photo reference.

So here's the story: yesterday morning, after adding a bit more detail to my samurai babe (last update). i thought it would be a good idea to do a speed paint from a photo reference for just thirty minutes. Then i couldn't stop adding details & went on for the next two hours at which point i literally had to run out of the house to avoid being late for work. I continued this morning & finished it off, i did a time-lapse recording of the process which i'll hopefully be posting tomorrow

i can see improvement is your posts! That last study is a very good practice too.

also the last painting you started. Its good to see that you are getting away from the white values. Try to work more with solid colors.

One small tip, when i a start a painting i always fill the canvas with some base color, never paint on white unless its water color.
never use white color for highlights and reflections too, always use a brighter color of the base material color mixed with the light color of the lightsource.
and for shadows a slightly different color than just a darker tone of the base metarial, can mix in some blue for example.

Some scribbles I did from observation when i got home from work last night, for some odd reason i can't remember i decided to give myself five minutes to complete each one (i promise none of them took more than six). I was surprised at how much fun i had doing it, & then there's the lips those took roughly 3 minutes each. I think i'll do it again sometime soon, anyways i'm off to posemaniacs.com to try & study some anatomy, if anyone knows of some online anatomy studies please let me know, i'm itching to get started

Barely slept last night cuz i was trying to find a way to edit & convert the speed painting video of the 2 Sweeps painting. Well after hours of struggling i finally managed & i've uploaded it on youtube Unfortunately the attatchment manager here's giving me shit about somekind of licence token, everytime i try to upload it here so i'll just post the link to the youtube page. i did a bit of drawing while i waited for the video to convert but the pictures i took are corrupt so i'll just upload those on monday i guess.

Not much from the weekend, just some hands from posemaniacs.com & an update on the samurai chick, quite happy with how far i'v gone with her, though with 13 hours put into her this weeken alone, i feel i'm on the slow side

i was surprised at how much fun i had drawing these, i'll try to keep track of how much time i spend on each image so i can assess my speed next up, the samurai chick. as sooon as i can upload her
