    Butcher vs. Strongman

    Hey all,

Here is my most recent piece which was accepted into this years Spectrum. I dusted off Oink for some new pieces...I just love drawing him. I have a new story for the series, but it's going to be a while before I can get the time to do it.

I'm doing a talk this Saturday for CA. I really look forward to sharing my 18 years of experience with the CA community.

Warms my heart. Oink helped re-kindle my interest in comics. I still use images from it for presentations in my illustration classes. Hope a new one is coming, but I understand the time thing.

Awesome piece John! I remember reading a couple of issues of Oink about 4 years ago, owned by a teacher in college who brought us some of the best comic book work around, so we can see that it can be as good or better than anything contemporary art can present.. Really inspiring man! Wish I could afford the class your giving...

Very dynamic scene. I was quite scared by it :-) I find the "pig's" head too small.

Great pic, I think I like looking at it turned 90 degrees clockwise better though. I don't think I'll ever get bored of dynamicly posed gun toting figures. Looking forward to your talk on Saturday sir.

Ben, you were like 12 or something when Oink came out so I guess that's to be expected :p

Lobster! Thanks man, I tweaked it by about 10% and I think you're right the head is a tad small...I'll save out a version and look at it in a week, that's when I see things a bit clearer.

haha, gah- it almost works rotated cool! I think that would have been a better comp.

Looking forward to Saturday, no heckling!

This image remind me of the classical paintings of purgatory with a sort of modern Americanized twist to it. Cool stuff.

ok so i know that i'm not anywhere near capable of making a piece like this just yet, and you're like an amazing freaking talented artist and i'd probably drink your bath water if it would help me any..so i feel weird saying something needs to be fixed...but...you should to take a look at the left arm and hand of the bald guy.The hand seems too small and the arm itself looks angled wrong or something..maybe its just the way the muscles are, i dunno, but it feels off.

Hey Riot, thanks! I actually had struggled with that arm quite a bit and it never really sat right with me. I added some space to my canvas and drew through the problem though. thanks!

Here is a rough of the changes on the arm and I also scaled Oink's head up a bit.

Here's another Oink piece I just finished...after 15 years finally! I'll rework stuff forever, I think that's why I both love and hate digital.
