Update: 3-10-2013 I have started taking oil painting lessons, I hired a one on one instructor three hours once a week, so look forward to that in the page 4 area it has also helped my pencil sketches I do believe.

Update: 7-2012 I am still studying, doing a little more digital painting now, feal free to give me advice, pointers, tips, and crits. Trying hard to get better.

Update: 6-2012 I backed off my digital painting, I have started a more ernist look at the basics of my drawing, as you will see as you go through the sketch book more graphite drawings, and study type material, hopefully when I go back to digital painting the improvment will show,... thanks to all that inspire me here at CA.

I am 30, I am not a strong artist, though I have been doing it for awhile. I work at a Farm Supply Store, and probably will be for life. I am Tired of making paintings and no one seeing them, except my immediate family. This is my first post after years of lurking around.

Getting back into things,.. here is my latest.

Some proof I do use a Sketchbook, I just bought this one, about 20 pages into it, but here is the highlight reel. I drew a boat when I took my kids to the lake swimming, a girl because I like them, and the tanks are from this past IDotW about the off/rail tank, I should have perticapated in that one, not many people did. any way thanks for the look.

Here is some stuff I have been playing with lately

1st one I started while reading the Conquerors’ Trilogy by Timothy Zane. 2nd one I was reading Julie E. Czerneda's A Thousand Words for Stranger. 3rd one was just an enviroment I derived from throwing color down and letting it evolve. And the last one is the only one I would say is completed, and it was one of those late night sketches I put to color. Crits welcome.

I really like that last drawing of a seashell, did you draw it from life or photo?

Thanks for commenting, I drew that from life. I have been trying to get better at life observation. The hands, seashell, ice cream scoop, and mug o' pencils are from life, the rest are from illistrations and magizine photos.

I know its unlike me to post 2 days in a row, but call it a new leaf in my development.
Another observation, my foot. and since the seashell was the first one of my works to get a comment I decided to develop it just a little more and I applied the windmill princaple to it I heard some chatter about the principle and thought it would help make that piece more dynamic, if anyone sees this post feal free to critique the diffrances.

I tried to keep it clean and the pencil sharp I realy like my rendering of this one.

I drew this one, I got the eye on the right to small and tried to make it larger and it caused it to be to dark on the sides of the iris, any way, you can see a few other problums I had, but the likeness was good, and I am tring to keep posting my sketches, the good the bad and the well not so good.

I am still working on observation drawing, a slow day at work so I drew the skid stear loader

Then I was looking for pretty girls to practice on and came accrossed this ad so I drew it, after working on it I knew my eyes were off, but done what I could, I went to post it and knew if anyone payed me any attintion they would mention that both the girls had eyes that were off. I had them straight but while rendering I lost sight of the guides and messed things up, not the first time that has happend, but I guess that is why I keep practiceing. So since, I knew they were off and was going to post it anyways to record my progress, I decided to post the ad and a layover showing were and how I messed up, and I was right on the eyes and my Observation was slightly off else were, but I am pleased with my over all accuracy, looks almost like I traced in spots, any thoughts or advice let me know

You've got a good start here. I really like the sleeping dog picture! All I can say is keep doing your studies and you'll get better! Also, try doing some figure drawing - if you don't have any classes/sessions in your area you can try this place : http://www.pixelovely.com/gesture/figuredrawing.php it will really help you improve if you do the trainers. (they even have animal drawing trainers!)

Thanks Newman I checked out the site, and see myself useing it.
Nerferinn: No such thing as failure, without Failure there is no success, so in the spirt of balance, Ying Yang, and Karma, if I produce ten thousand failures then I should in turn produce ten thousand successes hehe. It is only through Failure one learns to succeed, I have learned more from loseing then i have ever learned through winning.
Though I understand your pep-talk, I wasnt being negative, it is the way I view life, it may come off pesamistic but in truth it is very optomistic. Thanks for stoping by. I love how you combine anima with realistic styles.

Well, I know people watching my sketchbook may not can tell, but drawing on reguar basis I can see my consistency improveing , now I just gotta get consistantly better ).
These 2 are older but they were from a time when I was working on my rendering and thought I would show them, I happend by them the other day I actualy think they were for a school assignment

I done some more from pixielovely here is a couple, and a profile of my daughter, who never sets still, I had maybe a 10 sec view of her, over all drawing maybe a min.



I tried a self-portrate, far better then the last one I did, wich resembled a bull fighter whos head got steped on and the quack surgon who took his own artistic libraties, LOL it was bad... but this one can be shown off and cratiqued. 1hr 15 min to a hour and a half at most.

So I was working on my 4th 1 hour trainer at pixielovely and after doing my session I went back to this picture, and spent about 40 minutes counting the class session time spent on it.

So I forgot what day it was so the date is one day off, Oh well. I got a new book, Dynamic Anotomy by Hogarth. here is my first of many studies from this book.... I am so excited

Still studing from Hogarth's Dynamic Anotomy. The Skullish main forms picture seemed odd to me, like it was done in an isometric perspective, I kept trying to fix it in my sketch, but I was able to supress those urges and tryed to draw it as it was.





these are the highlights, I have a bunch of little scribbly studies playing with the princaples, but I have posted stuff like that before and it seems to just cloud the sketchbook thread.
