    ************New Stuff************

    Howdy y'all.

I thought I'd post a few new ones up in heRe.

The full length portrait is of CA's very own Layil all dolled up in Dia De Los Muertes attire. It's oil on linen. I think it's something like 62" X 35".

The portrait is of the artist Henry Lewis. I started it as a demo in Dallas and finished it when I got back to SF. It's been trough some changes since then.
11" X 14" oil on panel. I eventually plan to paint a vanitas on the back but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

The still-life is of an old fan at the Next-Gen Atelier. Affectionately dubbed "The Fan of Death" by the students because it has no safety guard on it and those blades could probably chop your hand off. It's oil on linen. I forget the dimensions.

Also for anyone interested, I'll be teaching a 10 day portrait workshop at the end of September. It'll be at the Bay Area Classical Artist Atelier. Check it out at http://www.bacaa.org/

We've also got a few spots open at the Next Gen Atelier. If anyone ready to apply, send in your applications. If you've sent one in already, do it again.

Hope you all are having a lovely day!!!!!

Beautiful as always, Carl. My favorite work of yours is still the streetscapes, though, any more of those?
What kind of panels are you using for the double sided pieces? and how do you frame/display them?

For some reason I'm really drawn to that fan "portrait". Do you think the fan knows how elegant she is? Something tells me that by the way 'she' has let he self rust and the way her wire hangs limp and he pose, turned slightly away from the viewer, afraid to face her audience, that she is unaware of this simple yet elegant beauty...

    ?

    Seriously though, great stuff, man!

That piece is a very advanced composition/concept lesson, for those who want to pay attention.

You are quite right. I've been in art school off and on for 13 years now so even though I said that in half jest I do realize the very simple suggestions made by its placement and the composition. I was serious about really being drawn to it. Its a great piece.

yeah carl, these are pretty cool, but if i had to make a suggestion, perhaps some huge shoulder pads with glowy bits would unify these concepts to where they all look like the belong in the same universe.

these are all great starts as sci fi concepts, you have the alien warrior chick, a fanbot, and black han solo...like i said the only thing missing is glowy parts here and there.

    and more contrast.

maybe if she was in a more dynamic pose? like she was casting a magic spell or getting ready to kick some alien ass!!!!

    hugs

Beautful work Carl, but its the Fan painting that really speaks to me - you 'painting vision' seems to find its most effective voice here.

Beautiful! I'm stunned at the how delicately you have handled the whites in the first painting. The fan is beautifully done too. Amazing how one can bring such beauty and grace to such an overlooked everyday object.
