Update:We've figured out our world. Kind of a way to make the good and evil versions of each character both real, not hypothetical...

The cities of Somne are at once both holy and cursed. Somne Sursum is a bright, happy place free of want or worry. Benevolent, powerful beings known as Oneiro are ever-present and ever-willing to help the city's mortal inhabitants. But Somne Sursum has a twin city, Somne Seputus, which exists in the underworld. Somne Seputus is a place of anguish and pain, darkness and despair. It also has Oneiro, but these are beings to be feared. Ruthless and vile, they take pleasure in tormenting and torturing the city's mortals. The great mystery of these twin cities is that when the mortals of one sleep and dream, they become the Oneiro of the other.

These are not going in at all, just some early exploration... Pretty normal high fantasy, gonna work out more of an interesting world.

A crab centaur man kind of thing. He lives in Somne Seputus, the Underworld, where he kills and eats lost travelers. But when he sleeps, his dream form in Somne Sursum is a guiding angel of sorts, whose wing-filters can catch and read threads of fate, and he helps and guides those who are lost or disillusioned. And he walks sideways.
