I brought a wacom bamboo bout 3 weeks ago (excellent tablet for begginers like me) because i wanted to start to work digitally in photoshop, i had used neither a tablet or photoshop before but uv got to start some
Here is one of my first pieces, An apple from photo:
some quick onions, 10 mins
Here are some environment pieces i have done
This was the first piece i did digitally, could be seen as tents in snow more then mountains lol
This 2nd enviro was done today actually, i had seen a clip on youtube n so i tried for myself, 20 mins
3rd. I had seen people using photomanipulation and creating (matte paintings is that the right term?) and so i gave one go myself. the war of the worlds theme fits in with some 6thform wrk im doing.
Here it is agen without the runners, what do u thinks best??

Hey here is some more stuff iv bin working on in my free time
I did this seascape sketch in photoshop to allow me to play with the colours and composition for when i do the final piece on canvas.
The drawing below is of Allen Ginsberg, I sketchd it out pretty freely to get the basic proportions and shades.
I then went on to redraw the piece and overlay a solid grid system to shade and give the piece a kind of abstract form. The grid idea was inspired by Chuck Close
Comments and crits are would be greatly appreciated
Thanks![]()
Welcome to CA, man! great so far! Would love to see some figure drawings and anatomy studies also! Keep posting!![]()
There is a neat effect made with that grid you used on that last portrait.
The fastest way to bump your skills is draw from reference!
Keep up the good work!
Imageenation - Thanks for the warm welcome!I do have some anatomy somewhere, i will have a look. Figure is something that i definatly need to improve on tho so i will post some soon. Thanks agen
Sublimus - Thankyou for the comment! I think the way it allowed me to create a different kind of frame for the face was coolThis will sound stupid i know but by reference do you mean other peoples work and photos, that kind of thing? Cheerz
I will try to get some more work up tonight
Thanks OA
Because the painting is to go in my parents kitchen i had to try and incorperate orange and brown, So here is a quick colour study i did
I then went back to photoshop and played with the colours a little, i added a pier to the left hand side of the painting to give it some character.
This last image is after roughly an hour or so of painting the final piece.
![]()
And here a close up of central focus
Havent added the pier yet but i feel the colours and composition of the sky and sea are pretty solid, Let me know what u think would be really helpful
Thanks alot
OA
After another 2 or so hours of painting and noodeling im happy wtih the final painting. I have added the pier and re composed the sky by adding a couple of clouds in (maybe lightly to heavy?) then i increased the contrast in the centre of the piece around the sun with sum brown from the outside
Sorry bout the pictures glare i didnt know how to get good lighting with the camera
Here it without the glare from the side (still crap pic lol)
And heres a close up of the centre of the piece
Let me know what u think, would be cool to get some comments
Thanks OA![]()
Looks great I like the range of colours you chose.
Dude, keep experimenting! That's what I really like most about your stuff. You don't stick to the 'normal' or 'usual' way of creating art!big upssss!!!
Seagulls - Thanks for the comment, And i think thats probably my favorite aspect of the piece tooi think the brown goes well with the creamy orange light source.
ImaGEEnation - Thanks again mate, ha thats something that I didnt really notice, but i think your rightAs im only just starting out as an artist i guess it is important to try different things.
P.S I will have some more up soon, guna try do some anatomy and figure work. Also bin thinking bout joining a figure drawing class, what do you think, are they good?
Thanks Again OA
Great start! Love how you did the apple, and that you posted the WIPs too, things like that help me aswell, I'm trying to learn digital aswell. The War of the World pictures, I personally prefer the one without the runners, it looks like the alien is posing a threat to the viewer then, rather than the runners. Keep it up![]()

Aila - Thanks for the comment, and about the apple WIP i like it when other people do it so i thought i shouldit helped me actually to structure it in such precise layers when painting. And that is a very interesting point you made about the Wotw piece, i have never thought about it like that and i think you are right
thanks again for taking time to comment
Snoopalu - Thanks mate, i will i will lol got alot of work to do for when i got back to school atm so im finding it hard to get time, i will try keep it up tho

I find it interesting the way you plan out paintings in Photoshop first, I suppose that helps choosing the right colours?
Love the colours on the most recent painting. The digitals are looking good too.![]()

Its just something i thought up at the time, and yeh was done mainly for colours but also to play around with the composition, level of detail and could possible be used to mimic diferent brush strokes. I will get some more up soon just bin a bit busy
