    Sketchup Mech Concept

    Hello Sketchup users!

After stumbling upon the MassiveBlack/Google clip on Youtube not too long ago, it has inspired me to learn Sketchup. Here are my results.

Also I find Sketchup a very interesting and nifty ap especially for people like me who have no background in 3D modelling. I'm still learning Sketchup and working on another model at the moment.

A Wanzer! Yay! My favourite type of robots And it reminds me of first Front Mission games (for SNES). Very nice model and presentation. Can't wait for your next models.

Yeah, it's partly inspired by Wanzers. I'm glad someone else has played a Front Mission game. Thanks tonic and thirdeye.

As for a tutorial...I think Youtube has helped my alot. I can post some Youtube clips that I found very helpful if it's ok to post links. I used a few helpful plugins aswell.

Here is a wip of my next model:

Nice details. I do have one critique for you though, this could be a side effect of how you took the screen shots but it looks like some of the mechs are terribly unbalanced, like they are falling over backwards.

    I hope to see more!

I remembered I had a link to artist's blog, who was probably behind the Front Mission mech design - http://mechanic.blog25.fc2.com/ . Have fun! And keep in mind there are various styles of robots, including ugly Gundam-like robots. But you can find there cool Wanzers as well

Wow. Now that's a fierce mecha.

No one would have thought it was created with Sketchup.

Chirp Chirp: Thanks for the critique. I really need to work on proportions for this guy. I may work on a different version and try to tone-down some of the crazy/odd angled shapes.

Tonic: Thanks for that link! That guys a master! I like all kinda mechs and his GunHazard drawings are great!

Parka: Thanks! Yeah SU can do some great things!

LoneWolf: Thanks. For a more white bg: here

Now that you asked about SketchyPhysics, I think you will definitely need it for adjusting poses - I mean, you could set angles or rotation of arms, legs, torso and more in fly Looking at your robots, I think you shouldn't have any problems - basically you would have to add servos, adjust their rotation angles and join them together with robot body parts.

Very cool designs on deviantart by the way - I think you should post them there
