Finally done. This is my first contest so please go easy on me
Concept: At the break of dawn a statue comes to life in outrage at the plight of an abandoned baby. Critiques welcome.

I was really hoping I'd get some c&cs before the deadline was up so I could fix any last minute inaccuracies............I guess I'm new to this.
If anyone does notice anything that I could improve on for this piece please comment soon.![]()
Hay your not getting any crits because this is looking pretty good!
The detail on the statue is great, love the strong shadows!
The only thing that bothers me, is that the baby dose kinda look like its been pasted on. So maybe if you softened some of the colours on the baby, I'm just not really feeling the blueish tones on the hands and feet.
Nice work though!
And welcome to the boards
matt
I am gonna disagree here...i like the blue-ish tones here bc ...that's was babies look like when they come out lol...however to make the baby look like he belongs to the painting, you need to incorporate those colors that u used to make the baby into the rest of the painting. it will feel much more cohesive. i know its cutting it close to the deadline, but i think you could hustle
Thanks so much for the comments and feedback!
JailHouseRock2 - Thanks! And I was wondering what to do about that, I'll try softening a bit and see if that helps.
JLPastecchi - I wanted to add those colors somewhere else, though was having trouble with the sky as I wanted that muted early morning look. Will try some variations--thanks!
cool, good idea! i like it.
I like the colors too, tho i would see about that blue. it loooks good here, i agree but you can not explain where it comes from.
The sky sets the ambient light. you have many clouds so most of the light is skylight, and bouncing light but there is no blue and stones do not turn blue, paint would make no sense too.
Maybe try some green shade for a test, its easily done in PS.
My crit is that the stone socket looks like it had a lot more attention than the face and the clots on the face. i would give those part one more pass and add more range in the shadows, more details.
The baby does not link to the statue well. as you see the shadows in the lower part of the statue are very dark, you need this kind of shade for the shadows the baby would cast on the statue too.
The baby collides with the hand a bit too, the fingers on the statues hand are too bright, there should be some shadow and maybe a more fitting hand pose would be nice.
last thing ... baby colors, now i am not a baby expert but looking at the baby hand color i'd say.. frostbite
Maybe change the colors to a more healthy look or make the baby out of stone.
The person in the BG pops out a bit to strong IMO, maybe fog it a bit more and add some shadow at the feet
cheers, hope it helps
