Newborn

Two week special! Chow, along with the other weeklies, have been invited to participate in the CA-wide contest 'Newborn'.

Pretty open topic this time, and we're only going to narrow it down a few ways.

1.) You must start a new piece just for chow. Since Newborn allows multiple entries, this means that either you'll finally get a start on one, or you'll have a second to enter by the final deadline.

2.) It must be character-centric, and follow chow rules. So you must be able to see 3/4ths (at least) of the character.

3.) The character must embody the idea of Newborn. But not necessarily literally! Think creation, folks - creator, or creation, it's up to you. Keep in mind that CoW is doing something as well, so make sure you're in the character direction, not the creature direction. You will want to include the character in a background (abstract or realized) and it can be of more complex narrative too. Idea development and design are key!

We know it's very open this week, but we hope this will inspire you to be part of the contest and support CA!

When I was thinking "Newborn", motherly love came into my mind. I immediately thought of how a mother cat, takes care of her kittens. Here I tried to depict the love between her mother and newborn, along with the magic of birth.

thanks daestwen. Somewhere there is an angel with your name on it. Here I was coming to look at the entries convinced I had missed the deadline and woah hoh an opening.

I added an angel to the vampire from the last time. I felt she needed something visual to represent hope. She is being looked after but since the birth experience is only felt from the vampire I didn't want anyone else in the crypt with her.

I changed the fairy wings again. I researched fairy wings till i just gave up and made dragonfly wings. it fits what I had in mind best anyway.

The genie was tricky. Since she was supposed to be a manifestation of an incantation i had a choice focus on the ritual or focus on the ingnition. In essesnce the poof she comes out of. Again wasn't interested in all the guys in robes so I went with the genie and the smoke.


I truly had fun with these girls.

The Newborn Angel Balthazar was created by an ambitious archangel who wanted to conquer Hell. Having both angelic and hellish powers, no creature from any of these realms is able to defeat him.




When The idea of Newborn came to me, I wanted to skip the sighting of someone actually coming from somewhere, or even GROWING OUT OF somewhere. Instead, I decided to create something characterized as unique, and even excentric for its uniqueness... And Balthazar came out...

The basic line of inspiration was at first the angel/demon cliché, followed by Glam Rock singers, who constantly like to appear and wear weird clothing.

I gave him that atitude based on the singers, but also, I thought that it'd be weird to throw a dark-assassin figure, so I decided to make him a bit cocky as he is constantly making jokes, even when he is killing.

Idea is a demon that is born of an unwilling host - a parasite much like that of those popular Alien films you might've seen. Started as something a lot more gorey than it finished 'cos frankly it felt a bit cheap and cheesey. Anyways, a mate asked me "why is Cthulhu eating a bird's nest?". Funny guy

Hey Everyone,

I´ve made a pic with a Sorcerer using his powers and some old spells to give live to an
elementalbeeing.
I liked the Idea of the creation aspekt of Birth. The Fire Mood feeled for me quite well for the Topic because it reminds me of the early Stages of our Planet, short after Earth was "born".

In the interest of time I had to wrap up. I may even be too late as it is. It's the first piece I've actually finished in some time. Hopefully there will be more to come.

tenjpten5: I do NOT appreciate people bitching about Chow by making a new account to complain. I CAN and WILL ban not only that account but also whatever account shares your IP address.

If you want to complain, fine, but do it under your OWN name. Do NOT create a new account because all you do is make me very very mad.
