I don't think you were going for a very realistic look anatomically, so I hate to point out the obvious, but you made his head too small, and his arms way too big. This isn't necessarily a bad thing if that's the look you were going for (which I'm pretty sure you were,) but personally I find it a bit awkward in spite of being kind of cool. The coloring looks good though and it's always a good thing to have some time to mess around in Photoshop and experiment with whatever you find, especially if you're new to it.

i gotta agree with the above, it's more annoying then a cool look to me, but i've always found that so it's a preference thing. I like the jungle bg and jungle lighting

which, I might add, to the above reply, would be easy to fix....especially since you are just laying down the sketch.

Of course it might be more fun to just redraw it, but if you are thinking i really dont want to redraw it because its perfect as is... then i have a short cut for you.

lasso that head, copy, cut it,

free transform making sure to hold alt shift to resize all corners

make it as big as you like
drop it in a layer behind the body

then merge both layers once you are happy...

Ok, made some changes. For all the girly men who were affraid of his overly huge muscles, I shrank his arms a little. . .ha ha. Also slightly increased his head. This is how I like the proportions, hope you do to. I think its tasty now-no?

I've got Arnold Schwarzenegger doing that line in my head.

How about resizing the gun smaller and tapering his legs. That way, his head isn't the only thing that's so out of place.

    PS. He's got sexy hips.

the rimlight on top of the scope was certainly necessary, now the top of the rifle doesn't blend into his chest. remember though, if there's a light on the top upward facing planes of one object, there's likely to be light on the top upward facing planes of other onjects as well..... his right forearm, perhaps his left thigh, etc. etc. Looking like a pretty solid start, although I would caution against using too much grey or desaturated colors in your shadows. Keep pushing, it'll be cool to see where this goes.

Update, made some more changes. More texture, more color, more jungle chaos, some prelim badging. What do you guys think? More to come---I'll be back. . . <--- Arnold Voice

pick up a really small hard brush , pick the hair color and make some hair on the edges of his hair. got it ? i dont think so...i mean that you have to make them look like hair. also add some yellow reflections on them since the light is yellow. thats what i mean take a look at his hair now:

Yeah, I'm not sure which way I'm going to go with his hair. You're right it needs a little work. . .I may make it darker--or even change his hair style completey. Also add more details to him/and gun, and better muscle definition and redering to his forearm-but aside from that I think this is very close to being done.

Question?--How do people feel about the painting technique/look? I'm experimenting with my technique and application style. I like the painterly look but am still learning how far I need to take a piece before it "looks" finished, while still retaining paint strokes? I know some of this comes down to personel preferance, but I thought I'd ask.
    Thanks

I like the painterly, but then again, I've noob eyes, so .... *blinks
I'd stop with the painting when I feel like I've showed all that there is to show with the focus in it's proper places.

-Is there anyway you can put his left knee down, just a bit. It just feels like he's marching on the spot, or walking like runway models, lifting their knees so high with those long legs and big feet. click click.

He's still got pretty wide hips btw, widen the external obliques or something. [Personal choice]
