what's up Raff? haven't stopped by in some time...and you've been chugging along nicely

have I ever mentioned I have this huge weak spot for large roughly shaded areas of negative space because that Zorn study totally hit the spot

not much else to offer other than encouragement, and to fix proportion mistakes early if you happen to spot them because your eyes look a bit far apart (apologies in advance if that's actually the case and I've offended you)

You're a bit short in the leg department. Try some Reilly method - I think it's more flowing and would add to the Bridgeman

Make sure you have a solid drawing before you go into rendering, it'll save a lot of time!. Check the mirror, there's a couple of issues in the levelness of the eyes. Keep up the studies dude

Always enjoy your rendering, but like skMOP was saying, got to have a sound foundation before you go doing all the fun stuff.

And now I'm a massive hypocrit for saying that. Magnificent.
Anyways, here's looking forward to the next batch.

Hey Raffix nice update and good to have you back. I especially like the way you've rendered the lady in the top left and the self portrait.

If you feel so bad about your rating then make up for it with more updates.

Nice studies, by the way. Hope to see more soon.

You definitely know how to draw.

    Two points though.

When you sketch any object where elements are outlined *against the object itself* (such as a human face turned at an angle) avoid outlining features in a darker shade than the area BEHIND the element.

    So....

If you're drawing a nose on a face, try not to have the edge darker than the cheek. I see you do this a lot and what it does is lend a cartoon feel to any portrait especially, the reason being that the brain does not see any dark perimeter line because there isn't one. I still make this mistake myself all the time when speed sketching but the way around it is to let the area BEHIND the object outline it itself.

This sounds confusing but it basically means take the time-consuming route of creating an outline via the background value.

It takes patience and practice but once you nail it your pictures will suddenly take on immense "believability".

The second point is a simple one: Buy Giovanni Civardi's books! His Complete Guide to Drawing is the best portfolio of graphite artwork you'll ever see.

    Dave.

Pretty good stuff! I like the work on the album cover.

The thing that draws my attention the most (for C&C) is the jawline of the middle guy.... his neck and jaw are kind of fused ATM.

Roll the edge of that jaw with some darker value underneath, and then smooth out the rough patches on the neck.

You could also subtly connect all the fractured patches of value in his beard and it would probably help.

    Good work! Keep it going.

    Looking really good!

Just try and make sure the values on the heads relate a bit more to the background, if possible. In other words, the band of stars underneath the middle guy's chin seems to "invade" a bit... and the highlight on his hair is a little aggressive.

You could also ink the drawings, and put a thick border around them... and the heads would look like stickers--like they were supposed to stand off the background.

But the drawings themselves are very tight. The design is awesome.

    Kudos!

Excellent rendering of the heads but I'm not sure that pink nebula cloud is doing them any favours. I hope they liked it.
