I don't think the illustration for your school mag is that bad, actually I quite like it because it has an old fashioned quality about it.
Now you're 17, does that mean you're about to become a menace on the roads?
No more school means draw, draw, draw. Gosh I miss that freedom. Make the most of it, but do other things as well.
Hey Raffix. It's always cool to see someone the same age on the forums. The running guy looks quite nice. I can feel the movement in his clothes. Anyway, keep up the studies and always keep experimenting! I like the illustrations with type in the previous page. Looks like you're having fun

skitchbook doodads oh and anatomy studies at last
the story behind the bottom two is that a lovely local artist gave me a water colour lesson today which led to these two rubbishy things
Watercolours are tough to master. Might try myself again one of these days.
Seems like we've both hit the big 17 too, so grats on that!
You've definitely got an interesting style developing, and in a typical concept-art style I'm still going to tell you to spam the studies (I find those last landscape ones interesting, *hint hint*) and to keep up the good work!
Hey man, great sketchbook. Love the studies, keep them coming! Watercolors are really nice too, especially the cloud one.
Naidy - always to to hear from ya - check yo sketchbook
Lang Oulk - thanks a lot man, your stuff is looking ace, i'll pop in for a proper look and comment later tonight
ok well i have decided that this is a sort of milestone in my sketchbook because from here on over the summer i am working on my portfolio for Art Foundation (pre university 1 year course) and so i am going to establish some resolutions to keep me motivated etc.
resolutions
1. Draw EVERY day and update my sketchbook every 2-3 days
2. Respond to every comment here with a visit to the commenter's sketchbook and as good a crit as I can give.
3. Find some life drawing sessions during the summer and get as much out of those as i can.
there are probably some other things i should be doing so i'll update this list. i think i'll give my sketchbook a funky new name as well.
ok then, first off is this, done from my head apart from a little bit of self-referencing for the hand.
from imagination
They're some pretty good resolutions you have there.
-And I'm loving the 3D glasses.
But anyways, Good luck! (and prepare to be hassled if you don't keep to your goals ahaha xD)
sp in da mirror
Ah, your styles comming along nicely, sp's looks great. I can see pencil strokes in some places but are these direct pen sketches?
Nice glasses you have.
Thanks man (:
i might have got myself a comission for a band's album cover. should be fun (: here's draft 1
more watercolour
^ believe it or not that is supposed to be a hay bale
Nice landscape regardless of the left hay bale. I really like the way you've done the contours of the land.
Congrats on your commission.
Yay good goals to do. I try drawing everyday. It's hard, so good luck to you as well.
Hope to see some more. I would recommend using anatomy books to help with your figures along with the life drawing classes.
My observational skills may be great but i said nothing about my drawing skills

Hey dude! You have some great work happening in here, especially in your copious portraits! I especially like the one in post #130, and the drawing in #142 (which I also found quite amusing!). Your last few, like the SP and the one in post #162, are especially well done! Keep up the good work!

Wow dude. You inspire me lol. I'm also 17 years old and I wish i had that skill that you hold! i can only draw funny little cartoon characters, but even theyre not that all great. I start college next week and hopefly i learn alot from it. Any advice you can give me about starting off my goal??
There are those who said this day will never come.
What are they to say now.
yeah i am like the worst person at keeping to promises.
Vital killz - haha thanks man erm im not really good enough to give any advice, i guess all id say is draw loads (so like 4 times as much as me) and just do your own thing.
this is a shit update. all from life. i only like the profile on the first page.
Loving the pencil works, and don't be too hard on yourself. Atleast you're going out there and doing life studies. xD
Your pencils/inks/whatever is awesome. Keep your focus and do the stuff that is required for you to reach the stuff you aim for and it'll all be good I promise. If there's something I've learned from watching all the dope artists on this forum and other forums like this is that hard work pays off more than one can ever imagine. Sorry, I have nothing really constructive to say about your art. I think you are on the right track, so just keep doing what you're doing!
Nicely said, alexson - I agree. My favorites are the face studies with fine-liner. Very pretty and secure.

The land in the foreground of the wc landscape looks really nice. Congratulations on the commission too - though I can't really tell what the figure's hand (near the sleeve) is supposed to be doing.

Great work. you capture likeness with few lines. much better then myself at 17. keep it up!
from life apart from the first one which is from these cool black and white photographs of workers in the 50s i found
wip of a water colour portrait. my art teacher thought it would be a good idea to do the face in watercolour then my glasses in acrylic. not too happy with how that idea is panning out
Hullo again, gratz on getting to seven pages
I like how the last post's going so far.
Think the acrylic specs are a good idea but If you feel the glassess are overwhelming the face, perhaps you can paint the watercolours more vividly around the eyes. What ever you think might work.
Or maybe just have part of the specs done in acrylics?
Oh I don't know, I'm rambling here.
