    A couple vampires

Doing a piece for artorder's latest competition, an illustration of a couple vampires in B&W.

Still got a lot of work to do on it (obviously), but I'd love to get some crits on the piece as it stands.

Ive got two big crits for you.

One, the anatomy of the guy needs some work. He has no neck for starters.

Also you have no light source. I would determine were the light is coming from and rework the pic.

Keep posting your progress, Id like to see how it turns out.

The criss-cross hatching isn't doing it for me. Also, get more tension in the white&black. (That sounds cryptic doesn't it?) And seconds on the anatomy, he's got very fat legs too.

I agree with walnut, the cross hatch thing you’re doing looks… just plain
    bad.

If you’re going to do this digitally like this, you need to work at a higher resolution, and take the time to make your lines neat and as straight as you possibly can. You also need to add some value ranges going on because, this black, and then white thing you’re doing just doesn’t cut hot butter.
(You might check out some of Bernard Siegfried Albinus’ drawings to get an idea of what great lines look like.)
P.S. I can’t see anything that makes me think that they are vampires… elves maybe, but not vampires.
