More pencil stuff today.

Figure studies, my hand, objects from life.
Also tried rendering a ball and a cube. I haven't done that in a while, it's interesting to see me approach this differently.
Trees from imagination and an apple from life. A tree from my garden and some heads from imagination. Some loomis studies as well.

I'm glad that you still work hard on improving in the arts field even tho you wnat to become a doctor.

As a suggestion i highly recommend using economy of the line.
Try to feel out that body pose shape and draw as much as you can witha single accurate, fillied with energy and elegance stroke.

Also your biggest problem at the moment is that you do it super small, i can tell just by looking at those cubes and lines on the previous page.
Buy an A3 paper and stick to it, it should do for now. I'm currently struggling on 50x70 cm one, and doing a straight line on that size is a challenge.
But in the end we no longer draw an eye with a single super small mark, we can go inand druw the lids pupil with details etc.

So go big, and this will help you to improve.
As for pespective, i wont lie to you your studies ain't aimed in the righ direction, you do not understand alot of it's aspect thus making wrong drawings.

Take this as a right example, look at the elipses, how they really behave in perspective.





I know its tough, but slow down, focus and it will pay off.

you're still working really hard and I'm seeing the results so nice work on that one. I recommend, if you're studying perspective at the moment, the downloads from Carl Dobsky - he has done two (that I know of) on perspective and they helped me a lot

thank you ice, very true; right now i'm trying to work less in the box, so i ended up using to many random lines, i'll try to think them out more. regarding the perspective those are beautiful! they look so solid.. i understand most of those lines, though i sill can't get my hand to do it accurate like that
i'll try working bigger, right now i was using A4 paper, and even that one i'd fold in half :|

but i wasn't sure what i wanted to do back then, so i did some perspective

did a few thumbnails but i can't find anything that i like. i'll try doing a few more tomorrow

i knew i'll mess it up if i draw in the eyes so i took a photo before lol
i like that version better
but i never did any traditional portraits, particularly self portraits for the last two years,so i sort of like it

congratulations there are some really good studies in here! I really like the environments that you did earlier on too, the sunset one I think was my favourite on page 32 post No 945 it looked pretty natural to me, which is cool.

i liked the feeling i got last time i drew outside, so i did it again today
this time, used graphite stick. it is so easy to make hard and soft edges with it, it really makes me eager to see where extra practice leads to

listened to what Icecold said and i tried working larger. I used A3 paper for some basics and for a so called portrait.
I messed up the proportions big times, noes!

Some bits shine here and there, sorry.
I'm used to scanning things in and bang! Here you go clean sketches.

Cristina, your motivation has got to come from inside you.

Do what I did... buy a tiny little sketchbook that you keep for your eyes only. The only rule is that you have to draw something in it every day... but it doesn't matter what it is. Scribble in it. Draw all sorts of weird things. Let your mind loose in it. Explore. And don't worry about posting any of it. Don't critique it. Just put pencil or pen to paper.

After doing that for a few days, you won't want to put it down... and you'll rediscover your fire.

I was pretty busy today so little drawing was done. I will add them in the next post and comment as well, thank you everyone.

I did manage to do some still life photos for myself. I'll use these as reference, but I know drawing from life is better so i'll look at the setting and try to redo it when painting digitally. I'm eager! I want to do all of them, but i think i should add more material variation. Any suggestions?

bring in something from wood and also metal, notice how the specular lights change from each material, metal will have very strong and dense specular light while the wood or silk will have softer and more scatter specular light. its such an exciting subject I can talk about it all day...!!

Danny_K- i actually woke up this morning with that phrase in my head, "you will be the most skilled art docor in your hospital" uni should start next week so i guess that reminded me. thank you danny! so good to see you back in here! thank you for your comments! and you are right, wood and metal! i'll go outside and shoot some in the garden. i thought, i'm making my own compositions so i should like them, so i will be able to spend a lot of time with them and have fun while studying

Icecold- ooh you've seen through that one, didn't you hehe. I actually didn't think of nothing at all while drawing those cubes and stuff, only to get that lines straight! the new big size was something new and a bit intimidating. so much white space, and i have to draw on it! all the mistakes big as a cow haha
what do the dots mean though? some have them and some don't. also there's a tick next to the sphere shadow. does it mean i did that one right?

For the cube part, i usually draw them like this, if i don't think of 2point or even 1 point perspective. I just look for parallels. The way you drew them in the 2nd point, is confusing, i never do it like that because i can't get a good sense of space. thank you for the cylinder part! i really did that totally wrong!

and i'm glad, but surprised you like the portrait. after a day, i already totally dislike it, what did you like about it?!



posting all the bad stuff of the day in this post, i'll upload the studies and anatomy stuff in the next post; yes i know, i'm avoiding to post them haha

the last two were in a park, nature stuff. so much foliage everywhere, i didn't know what was what. graphite stick didn't make it easier either
i don't know what to look for. should it be atmospheric or perspective composition, do more graphite stick to get used to it or what.
my guess, try to make it more simple.

Ok, no now the good part.
I did the Bammes studies for the upper arm, and now the hand is up next.
There were two pictures in between, so I did a quick bone sketch near the image to visualize them,
and afterwards did them on paper. Then the muscles.

The elbow area was a bit difficult, but i moved my arm around to figured it out.
The drawing part didn't came out as well. I don't think i did the same direction for the entire pose.

And started the hand studies. These took longer than actually expected.
But it forced me to do extra measuring and relation-finding, which i really liked.

seems like you're getting plenty of help here, I am not sure how I can contribute, just study and lots of it especially stuff you enjoy, don't get bogged down in technical things too much!

for your stilllife i would simpley add objects with difference behavior to light.
like clay, glass, metal, wood, skin, plastic aso. and you also can look for some
more complicated convex/concave forms. and also some interesting textures.
just do all of your photo-refs, courage wolf would love it.

I must agree with the above! very good. I was wondering though after reading some more pages that you are in training to be a doctor!! wow!! thats really cool.

Is the art just a hobby, or are the cuts in the medical budget causing you to draw your own x-rays!!?? ha ha ha ha just kidding.
