p sage - thanks! good so hear from you again

BludHund - thank you bludhund, a useful comment as always. wish you luck with the cross-country moving excuse ;p
i actually don't know yet what i want, but the illustration department seems to attract me. thanks for suggesting on what
i should work on more, i'll keep those in mind. now i just want to do some work i'm comfortable with, to relax after studying and get
back in a somewhat schedule. then, i'll work on those.
the dark version of that portrait is the original one, with the colours i picked, but i uploaded a brightness adjusted one, because i
was afraid it was to dark for other screens.

my laptop is a ThinkPad R61. any good for drawing?

I decided to try and draw regularly again. I just miss drawing so much, particularly the digital stuff.
So i'm thinking realistically how i can integrate it in my activities.

I decided to try and upload weekly, at the end of the week.

Here's a still life I attended a while ago, and now decided to redraw.
And a weird portrait from last week. I see a lot of flaws and intend to correct them. Posted it in the critique center too,
and got a lot of input from there too.

    Fan-Fan-tastic still live repainted.
You should go sharper with some edges on the portrait
and maybe on the still life also. You are doing it good,
I like em, keep it up, and yes drawings always feels good.

LtPlissken - thank you LtPlissken, i think i'll try drawing a bit without anything but the hard round brush for a while,
try and make myself get the courage to use hard edges more often, i tent to get intimided by them, and i end up rendering to a smooth surface

Little experiment this week. I'll drawing daily this week, starting as today. Each day around 30minutes.
Test weekend in med faculty, and i intend to use drawing as a destresser. It's getting cold outside, so i
can't really say i'll be missing the good weather if i stay locked up all day (learning/drawing)

Here's the peace i'll be working on till the end of the weekend.
    Crits please!

I've looked through a lot of your posts, and I while I do notice improvements, I do suggest that you stick with perspective as your main focus for the moment. I know it can get tedious and boring at times, but it's always been more frustrating for me to be drawing something, have it look "off" and not know why or how to fix it.

p sage - thank you, you're boosting my positive thinking sage

MrFrenik - thank you, perspective in general, or human figure type perspective? i'm not sure what you mean.

What I've been drawing these days.
The 2nd and 3rd portraits are the ones I did today. The one with a bit more colour is the original, non level adjusted one.
After taking a break from seeing them both, I think I still like the original better, although it seemed at first to not have much of a contrast.

lionheartGFX - thanks a lot! i'm trying to construct a bit more before actually starting to block in colours, seems it's working
regarding the perspective studies, you mean cubes in perspective for example? 2 point, 3 point perspective and such? thanks again for dropping by.

A little something from today. I should have picked a less weird angle of the face..

And with that ends my every day drawing week. I have a test tomorrow,
and another one the week after, and another one
two weeks from now, and so on @.@

Back to studying I go! Will be back drawing next weekend.

It’s wonderful that your willpower got boosted instantly,
and that your drawing work habit is up to it’s high standards once again.
Studying and drawing, that’s an unbeatable combination, and
I surely admire your determination. You have been really busy
and effective with your head and face studies, Bridgman, Loomis,
they will all help. I’m not sure, did you got your hand on Michael
Hampton’s book? If not, I would like to suggest it, it helps tremendously
in surpassing some of the human figure and head obstacles. You were
asking, you were hesitant about contrast on the face paintings. Well,
the best way to see is the contrast right or not, or to see the values
as they are, is to go greyscale. Try to paint more black and white.
If you like colors it’s ok, but try to implement at least one greyscale
portrait inbetween the other three colored ones. You are doing fine,
and I am very proud. You are a real diligent agile soul, who definitely
deserves a prize. I wish you many many luck with your oncoming tests,
exams, and I wish you many more happy painting and drawing hours.

LtPlissken - Hampton's book I know indeed, but it doesn't make me feel the form as Vilppu dose for instance.
Thank you for your great comment, always a pleasure finding you in here. As for the grayscale drawings, I've had
a moment when I'd do only grayscale so I'm pretty much fed up with it at this point, I like colours to much to go grayscale again...for a while.

Danny_K - hehe you got me there danny, yeah. I like his work, his envos have this great mood I'm fond of.
    Thanks for dropping by.

Sorry for the late reply for last week's work. Had some problems with the electric wiring on my apartment,
bloody thing wasn't fixed until Wensdey! Since Saturday?! Was really annoying ,particularly that on
Tuesday I had a big test again.
My next one's in two weeks, so this week I'm relaxing, drawing, and playing some pool

ps. horrible tree drawing, i know. it was done more or less forcefully, so i wouldn't say that i didn't draw last week. it was right before my test.
    can you tell? hahha

The pancake started to roll in the right direction as you did these last
pencil studies. Working in A3 format is a fantastic idea, I think that you
will learn to implement some more flow into your lines and more natural
movements from your elbow and not from your wrist. You are an intelligent
ever evolving person, these life drawings and paintings will do miracles,
if they didn’t done already. Your way is a good way and it leads you to the
right path. I know being without electricity is way too bad and puts a shock
on ones mental state, but you surpassed that frightened emotions and you
became an even stronger person. That tree painting is also good, even
if it’s still a wip, could be worked more on the sky and on the ground, but
even in this phase it’s a promising work. Whatever you do, you keep up
with your test and exams, but also focus on drawing, and relax also
inbetween, play pool or what you like. Be good and take care
    till our next meeting.

Oh ho ho, a lot of studies girl, sorry for being absent for so long, but i had some things to take care of.

You've been pushing it lately, and there's definitely a progress, your pencils start to get cleaner and more precise, also you've always had those yummy colours in your paintings, which i totally like. I have a few advices, i've seen some sketches from the famous artist course, study it carefully it has some really valuable info, also i think that you're a bit heavy handed when it comes to pencils. Try picking a lighter grade like 2H, H, HB and then push the darks in the chosen spots, it's a very good aproach when working on a grainy paper like yours as i could observe. If you want some super smooth gradations, try to get a bristol board or a moleskine sketchbook. There's one more thing, you've learned how to draw/paint one kind of a nose quite some time ago, now i can see it it on nearly every face you do, that's starting to be a dangerous comfy zone. Try to put more construction into it ( you've started to try it like that, which is very good )

    something like this:

And remmember drawing is more important, than painting when you learn the craft of fine art, it's the base, the core.
You're doing good and it will be only better, as always have my fingers crossed for your succes bothe medical and artistic, both Danny and me.
    Have a great day Cris

Nice updates I am delighted to see you working so hard, unfortunately I myself have been slacking and I am now filled with guilt and shame by your dilligence and my laziness... lol

I like the sill life fruit bowl thing especially, but as Mr Plissken said it just needs another push to sharpen it up, Thats just the opinion of me the great slaker of course.
The other thing is the eggs or squashed spheres that you did, have you seen the sticky in the WIP section thats full of those things it might help to do some of those if you are practicing the shading etc.

just some thoughts! all the best and keep on truckin!

LtPlissken - thank you , yes, i can feel already how i'm applying fewer lines and with more confidence. also, after going back to A4 paper at some point,
I had a feeling like it was to small, and even so, I would draw on the whole paper, not like in the past, where i would draw only on a quarter or half of the page.

Icecold - hey there! so glad to see you back in here! thanks for the cheering guys, hope you and danny are doing well with your studies, and keep doing
them (with pleasure might i add hehe) i had a look at the famous artist course at some point, but it didn't seem for me at the point, perhaps i'll have another look.
as for the noses hehe i still try to figure out construction, perhaps that's why there's so little variation in my work. and thanks for reminding me how important
sketching and drawing is, i'll take a little break from painting (if i can make myself >_< ) and concentrate on linework more.

Lightship69 - nice seeing a familiar face again! and as usual, you're being hard on yourself heh thanks for the input and good luck with your studies!

Some more figure studies. Some are 30sec, some are 60sec, 1min, 5min etc. you know the drill.
Pixel lovely stuff, no more posemaniacs for me. I think they're to unreal to draw after them at this point.

Seems i have a new style in fast figure drawing!
Love how i can see some good solid construction lines on my sketches.
I'm getting excited seeing myself progress! Yey!

    Hi.
The foreshortening isn't working to well in your quick figures. You might want to reference some of the tricky perspectives. Its important that you get the proportions right.
You are doing great with the landscapes. Very beautiful and simple. Good work. And its nice to see that you are growing as an artist.

Getting excited while you are progressing is a true way to go.
Too much excitement never hurt anyone. Except Brigitte Bardot
when she was overzealous with the butcher cleaver. I am also
happy to see when you are getting lots of fun with your paintings.
Especially before bed. Remember painting is fun, and it’s have to
be fun. Generally, I am satisfied with your general attitude and
approach. The winter frost is coming, and you will have more
and more time to paint and draw and that is very good. Just
shut your windows and doors real tight and keep safe.
Till our next meeting be good stay in good health and spirit.

Trying to use the hard round brush more, with and without other dynamics.
Last one is a John William Godward study try.

Some feet from life and a few anatomy studies, trying out a different style of sketching, blocking in digitally.

I like the priestess I feel that she has a definate egyiptian vibe going on, which is rather appealing.
One thought that I had was to put some bas-relief / carved heiroglyphs in the background when you get her mostly how you want her it will just add something.

all the best matey keep on truckin!! and stay well.
A great kind hearted lumbering bullock
