Chaser! Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook, I really appreciate it. We are supposed to be using really sharp charcoal but I always accidentally let mine get too dull. Unfortunately I get "scorned" for using the side of the charcoal or doing anything expressive. We are working for absolute study- no end product. I dont like that idea but I follow it when I am at class. Thanks for the crit though, I will see what I can get away with :p

here are some hot chicks from around the internet.

Nice drawings in this update Doesn't seem like you paid as much attention to rendering as you've done in some previous work. Push it!!! Keep it up XD

Well, thanks for all the feeback on the Ballerina
I sent it to my "agent" fellow anyway- and he wants me to start the painting. So I will be posting some more on that.
I went camping for a few days at the coast of oregon. I brought my painting stuff-of course. It was a great time. I cant wait to go back. The paintings didnt turn out as strong as I wanted. The photos suck pretty bad too. I will study for of Ignat Ignatov's work and then crank something out!
    C+C plz!

More team chow stuff and a space ship design- that I need to work on more. I like it. I drive a toyota matrix and I always try to "covert" it to something WAY cooler. So that explains the kind of stupid cockpit design. Gotta make driving more fun!!

I have a feeling my sketchbook is invisible or something! But here is more updates: color and armor scheme one-of three. I am going to go for a more gothic theme this go around.

jigje- You broke the silence! Thanks! I will post more WIP stuff soon I hope. Also-check out Gottfried Bammes about head construction it should really help you out. I will swing by your book and look more soon.

For now-what was left of my WIP master study after when photoshop crashed. I was able to take a screen shot and save it. All the layers are lost now... so this will probably be all for this one.

Oh man alot of updates and all great....Love those CHOW pencil renders especially the bent over dude with a sword.... Only thing i find funny is the gladiator's leg which i find too short. The master study in the last post is stellar. A pity your photoshop crashed.. Well now u can continue alla prima style

    ah you are talented mate!

i think with more time and practice you'll be able to pick up little errors in proportions that you're getting in your studies.

you're team chow knight has extremely long forearms. with his pose, if you try and imitate it, i think if he was holding his sword in the other hand, and (our) right foot was slid back a little would be more comfortable and a bit less stiff.
loosen up with your painting on him too, its a bit noodly and messy. get those crisp edges like you do in your pencils and you'll be right.

good luck to yah! keep havin fun
Do not, ever, under any circumstances, not have fun.

Mydrako- Thanks! The crit is VERY welcome! I have a hard time finding some of the proportional flaws. I will go back through and do some solid constructing of him. Sometimes I get a sketch and just keep rolling with it without going back and checking that stuff! I might fix a few more things, but its a pretty tiny crappy jpeg at this point. Prolly just start another one! Thanks again!

jdeegz- Thanks for the crits! I really need that stuff. Talent doesnt mean much, I have to really get a handle on the proportions. As I said above-the hero sketch got a little too developed with out the proper breakdown. I will make some adjustments! The digital painting is a pretty new thing to me. I will try to do more blocking and less layering of opacity I think that causes some loss of integrity. Thanks so much!

More updates today. Went out and did some plein air painting by the lake. Both are about 2 hours or so. I built that rock tower with a friend of mine-the best I have done so far! I was so happy with it-I did a painting!

Like the landscapes, the master study, the gladiator design, ... i kind of like all of it. Critwise i think you could perhaps put a liittle more saturated colours in the landscapes, in order to let them pop some more. Look fine otherwise. Keep posting, and don't let the radio silence affect you. The traffic in this subforum's a killer, it's easy for a thread to get lost in the hum.

jigje-Thanks! Oh boy, I about blew a gasket. I cant wait to get more RAM or something. Its just not okay.... I need to save more too!

walnut: Thanks for the input! I really appreciate it man. I am glad you like it thus far. I am excited to get to page 30 and look back. only happens one way. I think I will add more colors to my palette, right now I paint pretty limited and have a hard time mixing pure colors. Stay tuned though. I try to add more colors with each pay check :s

I watched a video from a concept artist from Massive Black. He was doing gun design, it was really interesting and I had to try some when I got home. So this is the creation. I wont take it any further, but I will do more later. I need to catch up on my team chow work-and tomorrow is a day off. More posting tomorrow. sleep now.

Great colours on the landscape, the character could use longer legs and harder edges.

Thanks Walnut! I can count on you! I decided to ditch this other armor concept and just rock with the gold one. We dont have much time left on the CHOW so I am going to try and finish it.

I will do some more speed paints later today. Might go draw in the park or something too.

You're figure drawings have definitely been improving. I enjoy your fantasy art the most. The only critique I can come up with, is with your black and white orc drawing. Considering the size of his upper body and all the armor he's wearing, the legs seem a bit too thin and small to support the rest of the body. I understand that one leg is going back, so it should be foreshorten, but it still seems too thin for me. I do love it's upper body and the detail you put in his armor.

    Keep up the awesome work.

ArekusuVo-Thanks! Yes, I guess all we can hope for is a steady up and onward. The proportions of that black and white orc are so far gone, I just say fuck it. I like the armor too, I will probably throw it onto a more proportional orc next time! Thanks for the crit!

Hey Sirkenneth I really enjoyed looking through your SB. I will add it to my rapidly growing sources for study and inspiration. Its hard to choose but I think the pencil drawings of the ballerina's really stand out to me. I love the angular look you've achieved. I look forward to seeing more paintings of them. Thanks for stopping by my SB.

Marian Rowling- Thanks I am glad you like the Ballerina drawings-hopefully the painting will turn out better! Stay tuned for it.

Here is the fruit from a week at school. Everything is going smoothly this semester. I am very happy with school. I think it is because I am working on so many things outside of class that I am ok with sitting inside and working on proportions for so long. Winter was brutal. I will be doing more life drawing though in my sketchbook. First drawing is a 6 hour study-the model nearly fainted once so we had to limit the time on the drawing. There should be a longer one soon.
Second is a really long tonal still life. I dont know how long we spent exactly. Either way, just a study.
We went out and did more plein air on friday. We went to an awesome park in the middle of Ashland. The park is beautiful to hang out in, but painting in it was very hard and a pain in the ass. Here are the two poor studies that emerged...

    Ill post more sketches later.

    C+C please!

This is an important work in progress here. I am sending this to a show in the town I grew up in. So it would be really nice to have some honest crits of some kind. It is a small 8x10. I am working from one of my photos but want to achieve a "plein air" look or better! Maybe something like Turner or Constable.

good stuff. i like this one a lot: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1250311590
with your armour i think it would help to use smaller harder brushes for details.
nice tonal work in the drawings.
