    Ken's sketch book-Finally updated!!!

    Hello everyone
I havent been on here in a long long while, so I feel the need to get back into posting my sketch book. I studied at the Ashland Academy of Art and now the Grand Central Academy of Art. This is just the ramblings. Studies from school, or the crap out of me mad head!

A few more sketches of reasonable size this time.

Smoke- Thanks-I am trying to spend more time working on these. Balance out the fine art that I work on all day at school! The input is good to hear.

    Very cool designs I'd say.
As you are in an art school I don't think there's any real crit I can give. Just keep it up.

Those sculpture studies are quite nice, my only gripe is that the images in the first post are ha-uge, so I can't take them in all at once.

    Thanks for posting!

Thanks for all the support guys. Here is another dump of the last few days of still life skipping. I get made fun of for breaking from the still life to do this stuff! Its just another muscle to flex-and we all know these muscles are the ones that get the girls! On that note-I have been inspired to try and draw some hot chicks. If anyone can guess who the portrait is of-I will give them a cookie.
    All for now!

Thought I would make another post-as I am not doing anything important again tonight. Here are some paintings I did outside, and a school study. I also just tried another self portrait. I just dont have the drawing power yet. damn.

    Any feedback is appreciated!

    Sirkenneth,

Thanks for stopping by my thread and for the support. Your work up to this point is very consistent and well rounded. Where are you studying? I really like the drawings of sculptures. Try to see the planes in the head, like a sculpture.

Your paintings are nice and loose, something that is hard for many people.
    Keep posting

I dig the first oil painting of the silhouetted bluff, nothing like on-site work to capture the light accurately.

Thank you! Your work really inspires me-I am actually headed to figure class right now and was going to make a quick round on your thread!
I am studying at the Ashland academy of art. We are starting to get more into the planes of the face and such-but for the past year it has just been proportions proportions and more proportions and I think I am losing my mind.

There will be more paintings and drawings to come!

    Thanks again!

I would suggest using that head handout that I posted to help you see the planes and abstractions of the face, It was very helpful to me. I mostly learned about proportion and sight sizing, but all the features where spread out and not exact. It's a good idea to gather info from many sources so you stay well rounded and don't take on the 'look' of a learning institution.

I'm planning on taking a course on construction soon to brush up, the learning never stops.

I will check out the head demos more-And use them in my own time. The school here is pretty set in there methods. We have break for a month now anyway. I will give it a shot. I mostly struggle with proportions-but I always figured it was better to start with the face and not the outline of the head. I dont know much though.
    Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks JakeG-I am trying to swim a couple ponds. See how many different kinds of swimmers ich I can get!

Now again for more- this is some more sketchbook funz. Also gestures from class- anywhere between one and 5 mins.

    Crits folks-please!

Anyway-another update time. Ive got some hand studies-pretty much inspired by the bridgman books I thumbed through at school.
I will be going some more-and some head constructions. I also need to start some WIP stuff. So just keep stopping by!

Concerning the socond enviro painting you did outdoors, things seem a bit flat, some appropriate shadows and details in the foreground could bring some volume and perspective to that. Nice sudies nice female figures, and nothing to add concerning your hand studies, they're good exept the nipple twist but you might have been laughing at that time and the one holding a kind of small ball.

Thanks Magnus-I agree with you about that landscape. I was going to try and intensify the detail and contrast-warm the colors up in the foreground. Try and bring it forward some. But I got lazy and just put that thing on the shelf. Thanks for the advice though.
Hahaha, I was laughing as I drew those. I am trying to combine drawing visually with applying construction. Sometimes I loose the gesture and it gets boring- or I get the gesture but the proportions are off. There is no easy way. Thanks for the feed back its much appreciated!

Fantastic stuff, love your pencilwork and the way you seem to 'block' all your characters up. A good way to learn the form I reckon, will remember that.

Izer, Porg, Braintree, and Sublimus- Thanks so much for the feedback! I am glad you guys are liking thus far. I will be posting more construction drawing, and still life work here in the future.

For now-school is out so I have been playing with concepts again.
Here is a long range bomber I plan on spending more time with- working out interiors and such again. Should be fun. I modeled it after an old world war one bomber Vickers Vimy. I love those old planes, I cant believe people flew them. Crazy fuckers.

I cant wait until I get my photoshop back! All of these things I am doing would go so much faster. I also plan on picking up a medium sized intuos4 this month or next. It seems like a solid investment.

More news and sketches to come!

So I have been thumbing through some Bammes anatomy and construction stuff. Its great. I enjoy constructing heads because I get to create a person from the skull up. So here are some sketches from that. Still gunna work on that bomber more too.
Oh, that last skull was cool because it was from a roman gladiator . They said he was huge and had a head sword wound. I tried to flesh out the skull to see what he would like. Its a total guess-but that was fun. he had no teeth.
