Hi!

A good way to improve is to study other's drawings and drawing from life. So here are some tips:

- Every day, draw 1 page of posemaniacs: http://www.posemaniacs.com/?pagename=thirtysecond
Start at 90 secs, then work your way down over time.
- Study from Loomis, Bridgeman and Vilppu's books. Here you can find all Loomis's books:

Copy their drawing and try to apply what you learn to your imaginative stuff.
- Draw stuff from life. Everything goes pretty much. People on the train, bus etc. Your dishes, shoes, cellphone, your hands, everything.
- Copy drawings you like. Just remember to say who your copying. and try to understand why the original artist placed the lines where he did.
- If your can find life drawing classes with models near where you live, go to those. Drawing from life is pure gold.

Drawing from imagination takes ALOT of work. Before you can do it properly, you need to study and create a library of shapes in your head. The aforementioned tips will help you build this library.

About the images you have uploaded here, one thing is consistent: In your faces, you draw the features (especially the eyes) too large compared to the size of the face. The exceptions to this is the two faces in the top right of 008.jpg, those are really nice.

The posemaniacs site is just what I have been looking for. I will do later some 30 second sketches. Man, that is some awesome workout for those who want to learn to draw. Two thumbs up! I am on my way as I said to acquire some of Loomis books. Will use some references from there I guess. I will also try to draw from life as you said, however it looks a little complicated right now, but I will try.

Though I would give you that page, because I can see that on that second sketch with the faces things seem to be off. There are many good tutorials in there, how to draw nose, ears, mouth etc.

About your stuff: Most of your work suffer from the same issue: lack of structure and depth. I can see, that you laid your hands on Loomis' book - you just haven't applied his method.

Human face is all about structure and it can (and must) be drawn structured. It is also true that the human face (and the human body... and animals' body... and everything) can be broken down into basic three dimensional shapes (spheres, cubes, etc.) Just keep that in mind and try to really construct a face - you'll be surprised how easy it is

And one more thing about conturs: you tend to draw all the conturs of eyes and lips. It's WRONG. linedrawn eyes work perfectly well without rendering the lower eyelid too much and without rendering the contour of the lips (check this for example) Lines are something that doesn't exist in real - and you have to be verrrry careful of how and where to use them.

And one more thing: Do as little imaginary stuff as possible. You are not there yet. Take references and try to copy them. It's not as easy as it sounds - and you can learn a lot form it.

At this point this is what helped me mostly out, cause I was just asking myself , should I draw imaginary stuff or use more references. I had the feeling that I am not there yet, to do some of my own stuff and it looks like I was right. Thank you again.

I see you've done some Loomis studies. I think drilling that will help you attain your own style once you have your foundations down. There's nothing wrong learning from observation, (someone earlier said drawing real people and figures -- I second that!) so long as you develop a style of your own later. Keep up the good work!

This is one more drawing from Prince of Persia "Warrior Within". I am so deeply influenced by this game, even if I played it a few years ago. I did this with a permanent marker, it was too big for the scanner that is why I captured it with a photo cam, so it seems a little blurry.
