The BOGEYMAN

Hush, hush, hush, here comes The Bogeyman!
Don’t let him come to close to you,
He’ll catch you if he can...

What does he look like? According to Wikipedia he’s a child’s embodiment of terror. It may originate in Scotland from the word Boggart, but every culture seems to have a ‘bogeyman’. What is your bogeyman. Let’s see him! No horror film characters though; Michael Myers, Freddy Krugers or hockey masks etc. But it doesn’t HAVE to be humanoid, that aspect is up to you.

Remember this is a character challenge, so shadowy hidden figures might be atmospheric, but make sure we can see him/it.

I'm addicted to CHOW.

Here's a quick rough. I'm not sure I'll keep it. But that's the way I see it for the moment.


For this second sketch, I'm trying to get together all the things that I feared as a kid, but strangefully, those are also make making laugh...

2 characters come to mind when i think of this, the bogeyman from nightmare before christmas and the slimey child snatcher character from chitty chitty bang bang, or simply a male version of baba yaga

here's my first concept, went with the "shapeshifter/pick your fear" kind of idea. he uses masks to become what children fear most(monsters, darkness, clowns, etc.)

though i might make the character himself less scary, maybe even deceptively nice looking, seeing as it's the masks he uses to be scary. and i have to figure out a better way for him to carry the masks.

anyways, here's a quick sketch of what i have so far.

Seeing this topic reminds me of the commercial that was on when I was a kid about a toilet monster that could only be subdued by the product being advertised. Always freaked me out for some reason.

Another great topic. Here is an extreme rough, I do hope I manage to make it work. I need to add some more inanimate things in order to make the creature. He is going to be made from a pile of toys and clothes and shadows and shapes from the light shining in. It should be fun making it seem real.

Well here is my initial sketch. Pardon the quality as my scanner is having a fit at the moment, but I think you can still get the gist of it.
I'm thinking of going with a sort of pied piper thing, with the Bogeyman luring children back to where ever it is he takes them.
Comments and crits are more than welcome.

Edit: got it scanned, but now I'm starting to doubt my concept. I'll probably work it into something else entirely tomorrow.
