DSG 1485: Creature/Characters from my Memory • SLUG-HEADED DESERT SOLDIERS IN GEAR

    .

[ I remember this really great series in some 1980's HEAVY METAL mags that featured such characters... ]

[ I wish I knew the artist's name, because many images from that story are rather deeply burned into my mind's eye and I would happily revisit them. ]

[ Anyhow, put 'em in helmets. ]

    Weird topic.

I might give this one a go, then again maybe not.

Time for a couple o crits methinks.

Aaron Illustrations: Looks pretty good, interesting texture in the surroundings. I'm not sure if his legs really go with his body though, they look slightly scaly as apposed to slimy.

benkashmir: Very cool looking slug, I like his buging bicepts, and how you've captured the slimy look. Would have been good if you'd included the gun more, so you could have designed a slug-capable trigger, it must be hard when you've got no fingers, lol.

Mitze: Nice, I like the pose of him holding the gun, and the expression you gave him.

bluez3023: Simple sketch, but we get the idea. Maybe stick on some colour, should make it look better. You've made him clearly a slug, which I like.

Diascope: Looks good, I like how he's trying to keep cool and moist, nice idea. Could've gone into a little more detail in the background maybe, but I think it looks good as is.

Hope you find the crit usefull guys, if you don't like what I said, feel free to shout at me.

@ benkashmir: The skin is well rendered, and really looks like slimy slug flesh.

@ bluez3023: Pretty nice lines there.

@ Hunkulus: Cute and funny concept, and the colour pallette works well.

Heres mine - spent a long time on it; had so much fun that I didn't want to stop.

Hey hey, DSGers! Long time no see!

This one is in sketch form... I want to complete it... WIP for now.

I did a search for "slug" and was slapped in the face by a photo of a blue sea slug.

I went a little overboard, and then it went awry. I wanted to apply some camo texture to the pants, but I have no idea how to apply textures.

The idea behind this one was that two rival armies camp a little too close to one another one night, and two soldiers step out to pee at pretty much the same time. They see one another, and pull out their guns at, again, pretty much the same time.

I wanted a nice, lithe-ish sea-slug type guy and a more burly, banana-slug type guy so there'd be some difference.. But then I was all let's make them mostly the same and have a show down.

A lot of this was new to me: Two characters, thought out composition, weapons, and an attempt at a scene of some kind.

Mitze : Love the colors and the expression, easy to read.

cw : Great style of sketching, both with colors and line.

bluez3023: Awesome lineart, better than I ever can do. I'd love to see this guy colored!

Last edited by lkjhgfdsa; June 8th, 2009 at 12:57 AM. Reason: excuse
The word ‘anarchy’ comes from the ancient Greek αναρχία in which αν meant ‘without’ and αρχία meant first a military ‘leader’ and then ‘ruler’. Anarchist society is one ‘without rulers’: a classless, non-hierarchical society.

He's wearing a suit that pumps small amounts of moisture to all part of his body, his head and hands need not be covered.

His gun is a railgun, it fires metal slugs

    and the preliminary sketch: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_HUCvaVJ7vd...ugsoldiers.jpg

First time joining the DSG. I wanted to draw them at night, since I could see them having an easier time moving around. Obviously had some issues with lighting, but I got the idea across, right?

I'm not going to submit in this one I think, don't have that much time.
I do see lots of great pictures so far.

But I'm kinda wondering about something.
When I think of Heavy Metal magazine I'm thinking about fairly realistic art.
And the literal interpretation of slug-head doesn't fit with that.
Didn't anyone consider that a 'slug head' is slang for a flat or low mohawk (mohican)? As someone who grew up in the 80's this makes far more sense to me than the literal interpretation, though I really love to see more pictures with people with slugish heads with eyes on sticks

Certainly something to research, now. I may end up doing another sketch to that effect.
