Digital Sketch After Watching Zhang Lu Video

Not quite up to Zhang Lu's caliber. I quit at about two and a half hours, having erased or painted over to the point of whining.

I enjoyed Zhang Lu's Caucasian Females video immensely. Hopefully, I can glean some of Mr. Lu's technique through repeat viewings and practice of course. Mr. Manley's narration was practical and informative.

Welcome! That's a great start. I especially like the man in the top hat and the horse head. Keep posting.

    Caucasian Woman Potrait Study

Another Zhang Lu inspired study. This took me three to three and a half hours when you add it all up. I dare say, I think I'm improving.

    Come On Ogre

I watched Disney's Enchanted the other night (Yes. I am a father of small children.) laughing and snorting from beginning to end. Inspired, I sketched out this ogre loosely based on the ogre from the film.

You are really good at determining values, i like everything you've posted so far! post #6 looks really good, especially the hair...maybe some of the lines of the face could be smoother (on the right side of her face/neck) but that's really minor. post more, i'd love to see what else you do (:

Follow up on the Western Sketch

I posted this awhile ago on my deviant art and blog, but thought I'd re-post. I'd forgotten my password to conceptart.org, and then forgot about forgetting and just didn't remember...well, anyway. Re-post.

Kinda nice stuff this far, the latest Lu study is much better indeed than the previous. I dig the ogre too. Nothing else to say at the moment.

    Sketch

This is a drawing from my sketch book. I was flipping through James Gurney's great book Imaginative Realism, which is a fantastic resource, and read the section on Orientalism. Inspired, I ended up looking up pictures of Elizabeth Taylor in the movie Cleopatra.

There's something of an idea here that I'd like to pursue down the road, developing it into something more epic.

I love your elaborated and impressive pencil sketches. #12 would be really nice, the face could be more correct. You drew the skulls and the monkey neatly, even sharp, the face is even more important. But apart from the face, I dig this drawing.

The last one is a good start to make something epic indeed. Especially if you have some idea I wonder if it helps anything but I say what I think about the drawing. I'd include Cleopatra's legs fully, the picture need some breathing space there IMO. It need values to put the slave into the background but you surely see it yourself.

Definitely, I see a lot of deficiencies in my work. For some reason, I draw rather big, so I often find myself running out of paper when sketching. Proportionality and paper use are a skill I'm still developing, so in the case of Cleopatra I ran out of "leg room" so to speak.

Thanks for you comments. I appreciate it.
