Impressive update, looks like you have been learning loads over in Flourence. Are bargue studies really effective? Ive never done one myself and was wondering about how much impact they had.
Awww wish I could do life-drawing everyday :3.
    Good stuff.

Excellent work n0fish, and your progress from these first pages is tremendous! Nice life drawings. Musr have been a great experience in Florence. Think I visited the school in travels. Is it the place with the statue of David? Anyway, great sketchbook. I also find that many nuances are picked up when you do a master copy or study. Nuances that become part of your repertoire. I plan to be doing alot of Chinese master copies for this reason.

    more of the same...

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I spent too much time bargues. Four weeks on the foot, six on the torso, and fucking eight weeks on the death mask. I guess i'm not used to this kind of work I have some large figure drawings done i charchoal, but I won't be able to post them before in two weeks...

Thanks again for the comments everyone...and five stars?! My dream has finally come true!

Stephen: There it is! I was really looking for it and I couldn't seem to find it, and well, of course! It was on your computer all the time! Duh! Seriously though, thank you for showing me this drawing again, it really reminds me even though academy work helps you forward, being creative like this can be pretty cool too

Allright, just wanted to show some of my charchoal drawings. They are both 5 weeks. The photo is terrible...sorry

The charcoal drawings in your last post look great -- just wish the pics were a little bigger so that we could see more detail. I really like this one http://conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=112761&stc=1&d=1174756 493

    Looking forward to an update.

Oops, back to four stars again, hehe. I hope that wasn't a response to my last post...I wasn't trying to be very serious. :p

    Thanks for the comments, guys!

Balooga, I would, but the camera I use is terrible, and the picture ended up being either too blurry or distorted...heh, I'll make sure to take a "proffessional" photo once I have a drawing/painting that is worth the money and the effort.

As for my life at school...I'm still copying bargues. I have ended up as one of the slower students, but a couple of the teachers has told me that as long as I can benefit from all the time i spend on each project, I will get stronger in the long run. The school year is coming to a close (two weeks), which means more frequent updates (i think).

    Okay, some crappy photos:
First one is the 1st charchoal bargue I did. I spent fucking nine weeks on that thing. Looks simple, but trust me, getting every millimeter of that curved baseline in the exact position can turn out to be pretty...should I say humbling? Took some effort Photo sucks.

Second one is the 2nd and last bargue. It's going way faster, so I guess the last one thought me a couple of things, hehe. Photo is kinda old. If you guys want (and if Michael doesn't mind me for constantly bugging him for his laptop), I could post some ongoing progress shots as I work on this one and the current figure thing.

    Great drawings as always !
The shading on the second bargues is a bit different though. Maybe smoothing it a bit more ?
Besides that, it's beautiful. Do you have more shots of the figures?
And yes, some process shots would be welcome
    Post more often !!

Looks very good. The finished charcoal bargue is very accurate. You have skills

How are you doing the sight-size. Do you do the very first points with just mechanical measurement, and then do every point with eyes and then just check those with plumb-line and knitting needle. I think that iam doing my cast and bargue too much with just plumb-line and knitting needle.

What is that paper, is it fabriano roma... what papers they usually advise to use. I had heard that fabriano roma and stonegenge are good brands? Iam really paranoid about good papers . Some papers are cheap and look and feel good, but wears pretty fast if you use alot of eraser or stomp.

    Ballpoint doodles + 1 pencil

Okay, here are some ballpoint sketches i did on my spare time. I guess this is what my frustrations/anxieties look like...

I have some life drawings as well, I'll post those later. Nothing exiting anyway..

baretul thanks. Takes more time than skill, though. Heh, i think I still measure too much. I was maybe too cautious on that venus bargue. All those curves had to be perfectly thin and in the exact position, related to everything else, and even worse, I was too heavy handed, leaving dark, distracting ghost marks all over the place. I used fabriano roma paper. It used to be pretty good, but it went out of production a couple of times. The school, who rely on that particular kind of paper had them to start producing it again, but the quality has decreased a lot! Hopefully, it'll get better over the summer. I have only heard good things about stonehenge. I imagine it's a lot more comfortable to do bargues on it. As far as i know, fabriano roma used to be one of the most durable papers for charchoal drawing...

DanielC: Thanks man. Cool to have you visiting here from time to time. You have some great stuff over in your SB

Good stuff fish....I like the lady the most...composition looks right for some reason. Renderings look good but you're all over the place...could focus more on one area and then go nuts in the BG, kinda like you did with the lady.
