    ROUND #159 :: THE OUTLAW
    DESCRIPTION

    The Outlaw

    Thomas 'The Baron' Cochrane was one of the last of his kind. The twentieth century had dawned and he was an unwelcome memory of a violent time in his country's history. He had ridden with Quantrill’s Raiders, had known Jesse James and Cole Younger, and between times as a paid killer he had worked the ranches alongside William Bonney and John Chisum. Now he was approaching old age, the scars of battles fought across his face and reflected in his bitter eyes. All he owned he brought with him, his gun, his horse, his bedroll and the bottle of laudanum he was addicted to. Not much for a lifetime of thievery and murder. He was despised by a country that was fast becoming respectable. But he wasn't going to go with a whimper. There would be one last gunfight, and he didn't intend for either of them to walk away from this one.

    Cochrane is a cowboy and gunfighter. You have free reign with his look, but he is aging. Not young. And bare in mind he is now part of the early twentieth century.

    Here we are...

    Edit: The costume (Renaissance shoes and throusers) was ment to be little older than western - he is oldschoooler, maybe he is is missing old, romantic times and depressed of new technologies, all the trains, steam engines...:-)

    There's some really amazing stuff in here guys. It's an honour to be alongside you all.
    Here's my ref and some of my sketchbook stuff. There's a pic of me in there too, I needed the hands.
    My early sketches centered around the nickname 'Baron', he started to look like a crazy east European! (No offence East Europeans)...

    Here we go then...I've tried to make him fit with the brief. I kind of feel for him now..I guess he's just had enough. A bit down and out I thought.

    Not usually much for doing western stuff so this was a little tougher than usual for me but I finished! Wish I had more time to get to a background though.

    Cool

    So in the description of ChoW it says something about pushing your boundaries further. Well, I did that thing. I didn't not feel comfortable coloring this piece at all. I had to restart until this last time. Never used textured "natural" looking brushes before for digital painting. Great exercise!

    W.i.P.

    The thing that stood out for me the most in the description was how out of place the Baron was in society. That is what I went for with this illustration, that feeling. Most of the other ChoWs look like the Baron in his heyday. Great illustrations, but not capturing the character I saw, I guess that was why I entered this piece. I'm also glad to see most people picked the Remington New Model Army as his personal gat. Enjoy!
