    UPDATE:

Desperately trying to save my fairy now, although there's no chance really ... Atleast I've altered her arm slightly. Btw I know the lighting is completely random atm since I've just splattered colours on a multiply layer, but I'll try and do my best to figure it out!

Amber Alexander: Your right, I just got too carried away as usual. I did actually use a reference, guess I just didn't do a very good job interpretting it...but i've come too far to go back now!!! (at least this time, but good to keep in mind for next time ).

Avis: Hope the shoulders are a little better..eek!

Have had no time for this one unfortunately. Only a quick sketch/idea at the moment but i thought why not post it even if it doesnt go any furthur or i change my mind.
This is a drunken Absynthe Fairy after a heavy night of "musing". In tow is her hot date.
    Crits are encouraged.

update... not quite done yet. Am soooo envious of Jessibean's Mucha-esque fairy.

AvisNocturna- I'm really liking yours, too. The shoes are a bit clunky, tho?

Thanks for the crits, I was painting in the wee hours of the morning so having some fresh eyes on it helped.

I fixed the slope of the butt to the thigh and I thickened up her lower legs a bit, as well as popping the spoon wing back behind the rim of the glass.

    Wheezy's Progress Update

My fairy is green, that is all I can say for now. I cropped down my image and removed some clutter from my drawing. I have so far been painting the foreground, so the inside the window part will have some color soon.

Fantastic round by all so far.

    Thanks gerbil!

MONGO: It's not particularly original. I'm guessing subject matter will repeat itself several times in this round.

Here's an update. Still a little rough around the edges, but i don't know how much time i have to keep working on her. We'll see when it closes in on the deadline! ^^

Honestly, it looks fantastic. I think your groundwork is solid, and once you start filling everything in, it will come together.

Also, I use Painter IX.5, and the pencil tools in that are absolutely amazing as well. I never have problems with my sketches/linework. It's more the process of generating textures and such that takes time, and sometimes it's better porting it to ps for that.

Amber Alexander, thanx a lot - I kinda didn't think much of this.. So I've fixed the legs and I'll probably add more effect to wings later. Actually I didn't know what to do with the wings - so I just made these weird strokes that actually made a nice flying effect. Happy accident
So,guys, tell me,do you miss her smile now?

Slash Very nice water effect! And I like her wings! You should check her legs anatomy though and the glass perspective seems a bit off

wheezyit's interesting, considering your input into the background. But for now it lacks contrast, and some center of concentration, imo

Mercuralis I love her hair! And the bubbles are great^__^ I love her style - I could have go like this to the party! The upper wings are too dark. Are you going to add there something?

ianthegeekVery original No crits by now

Tydal You really should check her proportions, and for this state get yourself some girlfriend to shot for reference

kisou She's broken - she has several serious traumas and you should fix her indeed.Try to flip horizontaly her upper body - it will bring it a little to the truth, but you still should work hard on foreshortening and anatomy

JessiBean Awesome Linework! You've got a fan here

    JailHouseRock2 cute

Arthur 'Two Sheds' Lovely!Where's the blood on the spoon? ^_-

Amber Alexander She reminds me of maskarades - more feathers there And her left boob needs fixing and her belly button run away to the left too far.Nice wings design and I like that you put that fabric on the floor

    Ostrander It's awesome!

scottmcd Nice idea! You should add more color to her skintones - she's too pale now. Legs are anatomically off - check some reference or buid them carefully

NoShot Nice dress!I like this style I'll wait for the progress

Max Martelli I love it a looot! It's very interesting I'm thinking that you probably gonna win my vote

Curly - The arm on the left, holding the neckpiece has a very short upper. Also bring the inner curve of the forearm in front of the bicep. Right now it looks slightly twisted back behind.

i have played around with a sketch, and have come to this point now. I'm not sure how to make the composition work, i think i want a knocked out man with a bottle, but as it is now the composition looks bad to me. so im gonna play around a bit with that. and also with that fine fine lady, i thought the small sketch of 'er i did first looked cooler then it does now... something about it seems stiff and kinda no-good, the rendering and design of her face is something I dislike right now. Tips would be very appreciated!

and many good looking entries so far! jessy beans looks classy, ostranders got some great potential... ETC!
max martelli, yours look really good too, unconventional rendering there i'd say but i like it! looks like you looked alot at a ref, so i hope the stuff you are gonna have to design yourself match the rest in lifelikeness. but it looks like you definitely could do that, looking forward to seeing that!
mongosmash, looking forward to seeing your final one yea! weird combo of styles right now but ofcourse that says nothing about how the final thing will look. i like the look on her face there and how she looks just a tad druggy thin.

Here's an update before we're off to a fairy festival. Should be cheesy and fun.

Amber Alexander: Yes, she is, isn't she? You thought absinthe came from wormwood? Thanks for the joint comment. I've reworked some of that.

curly: Thanks. I thickened the ankle earlier and reworked the knee.

Avis Nocturna - Looking at the thigh visible on the left behind the bent leg; you don't need to see it. Try hiding it on an overlay just to see. I reckon it'd look more anatomically correct hidden.

Wow what an inspirational thread...some really great work.

Jumping in a bit late with this but had to have a go. 50's pinup absinthe fairy.
    WIPS and finished one.

Edit: - she was missing something, played around with some patterns for her skirt and refined the leafs on her bra.

Curly - have you tried seeing how it looks with the rim of the glass placed a little lower - as if it was the collar of the outfit? The distortion effect is nice but it seems vaguely distracting.

Here's an updated WIP with a close up of the more rendered part of the fairy. I think I like the purple/peach background better than the brown. I'm probably not going to add any structure to the background afterall, but I am going to tighten it up some. I still have a huge amount of rendering to do!

@ JessiBean: Great job on creating an amazing scene! cant wait for color!

@ Ostrander: I lreally like your take..the textures are really cool

@ Max Martelli: fantastic rendering, and I love the idea...waiting to see it develop!

@ Migsta: thats just foul...and here I was actually CONSIDERING trying absinthe, but now...now I just cant bring myself to do it..great speculars ;P

@ Amber Alexander: Thanks, yeah, that whole arm holding the cube was wigging me out...so I got bored and started anew....btw, I wanted to comment on your piece...I love that you reflected her face in the puddle of liquor, but from that angle and distance I think the uddle would only reflect her knees/thighs...I think it would still look good if you did that...either way youre doing a stellar jub on the coloring!

@ Mercuralis: outstanding...love the warm and cool colors, very vibrant!

@ Chronoperates: best wing design ever! very sexy fairy in an evil sorta way! kudos!

@ Slash: Fun fun fun! love her expression!!!

@ MichaelNoel: Thank you very much for the encouragement!!! You should give painter 11 a trial run...loads of fun...but I agree with using PS for most other things

@ gunnarsson: @_@ That is fucking AWESOME! I hate it and love it all at the same time..you got one vote already!!!

@ AvisNocturna: Wow...your lighting is absurdly phenomenal...the hair, the spoon the glass...its soft but delivers a great impact. bravo! one thing tho...I dont know if its been mentioned, I think her right leg (our left) seems disjointed at the hip...not sure...could be me...

@ flashrabbit: DUDE!! aahahahahaha looks insane!

Here's a new sketch...got bored w the last so I got to playing...I havent been in the mood to stick to anything lately Y_Y anyhow do crit if ya can, it always helps!!!

Probably you're right, but I planned it like that, and it's giving more of a glass feeling, though it's hard for me to give up on face and legs :p
