Thumbs up Fresh Face, first sketchbook.

Hi, I'm Jesse and I'm new to Concept Art. I was over in the chat room and they told me I should put a bunch of my art in a sketchbook. So here i am, dumpin some artwork on ya.

Disclaimer: I do like anime styled artwork, I started drawing that way wayyyyy before it became popular in the states. However, In the last few years, I picked up a subscription of Imagine FX and have a keen interest in sci-fi and fantasy artwork. I've been dabbling back and forth between different styles and techniques and am very open to expanding my art horizons. I'm hoping to learn a lot here.

    P.S. Please don't crucify me.

This is my newest, I wanted to go with a sci-fi Theme. I still need to do some tweaking on it so comments and crits are very welcome.

    More Art

Added my cave painting. This was my first attempt in Painter IX to do a painting from scratch with no line art and no reference. Not fantastic but a good exercise.

Hi,man!Cool SB going on!Maybe you should focus on the basis befor jumping to color techniques, things like anatomy and all those boring things...but this is a promising start.I like the first one!Looks very flat, but cool design for the suit!

Camara, thanks for the comment. I haven't made that many color pieces over the last 6 months or so. I've mostly been focusing on exercises, sketching and pencil drawings. I do feel like thats the base. If your lineart is weak, it doesn't matter how good your coloring is. Once I feel a bit more comfortable with my pencils, I'll have a good sit down and study painting.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I still have a long way to go to improve. I'm going to hit up anatomy this weekend with some muscle drawings. I'll probably start another sketchbook.

First things first... I'd say start with foundational drawings.

Start by going to sites like this: http://www.hel-looks.com
    Or http://www.characteredesigns.com
    Or http://www.kindgirls.com (NSFW)

and begin by starting to study the shapes that make up the models.
Foundations are going be what makes you improve by far.

Also, look up Loomis books, and attempt some Bridgeman if you can. There's a link here on CA to pdf versions of both of them. But I can't think of the spot atm.

After that, I'd suggest to start studying and copying artists that YOU find inspiring and interesting to look at.
Make it a slow process and commit some time to it and you'll see improvement fast.
After you do all that for a bit, try branching a little bit of what you've learned back into what kind of art interests you. Good anime is still art none-the-less lol.
You'll find a niche, it just might take a little bit of time

    Have fun, I'll be watching.

    Hey, its Matte!

I'll check out all those links. I'm gonna really need to buckle down on the foundational stuff but I'm confident that my art is going to improve by leaps and bounds from it.

Dahmi, thanks, I'll create a new thread soon with my new traditional work. I'm putting aside anime art for a few months while I work on the basics.
