Architaylor I just run a tight schedule.
I try to put as less time as possible into high school (and everything else),
which isn't too hard, it's definitely doable, I'm pretty lucky to have such comfortable circumstances.

    -----------------------------------

Today was full of unexpected fuck-ups, yay!

There were electricity spikes that killed the progress I've made digitally
I need to remember to hit ctrl+s, that's definitely a lesson well learned.
I was also busy with more things I had to attend to.

So I did 5 hours, 51 minutes and 37 seconds
But this is all I have to show for it
(I'll be awesome tomorrow, promise )

Really good improvements. Your self portraits are starting to look a lot better. I like the woman in the chair. It's good that you checked the perspective to get it looking correct.

Haha, that falling guy image is great, excited to hear you're going to be taking it further.
With regards to your ongoing piece, her right leg (our left) is bugging me. It looks like it starts too far down her torso, it certainly seems to start lower than her other leg. I think If you bring up the problem leg, then increase the incline of the other leg to accommodate the new position of the problem leg she will sit much better. I realise that was the worst explanation ever but hopefully you get what I mean!
Also I think you need to consider your point of interest, with the lighting scheme you have and the value pattern of her techno-chair my attention is being puled all over the place. Lastly I think outlining the majority of the techno-chair with yellow wasn't a great idea, all it seems to be doing is flattening out the forms.

I'm totally copyrighting the name techno-chair by the way!
    Peace
    Dan

Yepyepyepyep looooking goooooooooooooooood man! good thing you added more saturation to the evil book in your librarian piece! loving the old mans expression too! Heres the paintover, regarding the athmosphere. the pure whites on the window suggests that its a strong lightsource, so i blurred the forms of the window, and some forms around it. I also tweaked the contrast and levels of the work and added a touch of blue color. Hope this helps, im a bad explaner

    nice stuff.

school is cool dude! if you want my opinion you should not brush away your school work as quickly as possible just so you can draw, spend time and do things properly, try and get a good grade and have fun learning and you will be surprised at how much your schoolwork will feed back straight into your art. Maybe you wont agree with that but thats my viewpoint on balancing art with school and everyday life.

I dont think it is a good thing to feel guilty because you arent drawing 24/7, and I dont know if thats how you feel, but i think its important to chill out, draw when you can, have fun whilst your doing it and enjoy life

    cheers man.

Ah man I definitely enjoy drawing!
I can't get enough of it, and I'm very grateful for finding such a great thing as art

I feel like I don't say it enough, and it might get lost between my rants of pushing myself harder, but I'm very satisfied with my life and myself in general.
I love it wholly: the studies, the successes, the little artist quirks, the company of I artists that I have here, and even the frustration and struggle.
(Art wouldn't be the same without it being friggin hard!) I just have some stubborn qualities that I've got from my old man that overshadow the other stuff here in the SB.

I don't share your views on high school though

    Hey Mark,

Interesting lady character. I think you might want to change her haircolor since it's the same as the headdress and her outfit kinda gets confusing/repetitive. I think this one will really start to look nice once you begin blending your values and smoothing some of the skin tones out so they're not as brushy. I like the repeating elements of the arm rests on the chair. The bottom of the chair's form is hard to understand. You might want to re-emphasize your light source and really work out how the big shapes work together.

The heads in pen look alright. Keep in mind the proportions of the head. Usually eyes land at the half way point of the head. Be careful about making the lower jaw too large.

    Take care!

My best drawing teacher said you'll learn more if you fix what's wrong with a drawing you're not satisfied with rather than ditching it or starting over. I would probably just ditch a drawing I'm not satisfied with too, but I figured I'd tell you that in case you want to follow his advice, cause I think he might be right

The skull studies need some work. For the front view, usually the bottom of the zygomatic bone is about level with the bottom of the nasal cavity and the mandible would be bigger too. The zygomatic bone looks a little too high and there's a certain curve to it as it goes towards the maxilla. Here's a pic of a more extreme example of what I mean with the way it curves. Also, the teeth are too wide. The teeth roughly end where the middle of the eye socket is.

For the side view one, the front of the skull is going too much in a straight line. The whole front has a slope to it and there's more angles. Check out this picture to see what I mean, hard to explain in words.

thats the spirit bro! I would focus more on studies at the moment , because you don't learn as much from imagination drawings as you do from life drawing, anatomy studies, master paintings, photo reference and so on.

Imagination drawings really help bring out your flaws so you can see them and work on the areas that are most lacking. I would do both studies and imagination drawings. Imagination drawings to help find your weaknesses and studies to work out those weaknesses. Anyways it already looks like you are doing this just keep it upp!! You're showing alot of dedication.

I concur with the above 2 statements. Also let's seem some dynamism in your next few TD's/illustrations, I know you can do it, more active poses and stuff. I realise this is laughable and hypocritical coming from me but fuck it this your sketchbook!

Lighting came out real nice in your seated girl piece, and you've done a really good job on renering the different textures. i think it's still lacking a point of focus but it's essentially a character piece so this may just be me in illustration mode still. I know you learned a lot from it and it's a clear improvement over your last piece finished to this level. It's sensible to stop now and go back to the studies. Looking forward to what you can come up with next.

Also, more pencil stuff! drawing should be the foundation man.
    Chat to you later Mark,

    Peace

Nice sketchbook .Ok i think you must place simpler values depending on the plane(so also a focus on the planes).Maybe try putting less highlights. For example in the last life study the things have a better rendering and you must understand why.So a good training is to get desaturated images or do focused training for some time doing greyscales. The color will come easily when you understand values. Also make some research on how to render the "edges" of each object/body part etc.Actually what i mean is that in some places your object seems to end with a bright color/value and there is no "darker outline" and that makes it flat(this mostly affects objects that stand next to lighted objects, so light to light needs outline. That falls under the contrast understandings.)
I think i havent made this understanable but i think if you make value studies and research in greyscale and contrast you will find out soon.
    Keep up the good work

haha, I'll add my 'work on construction first' note here with the others : )
good work so far, keep it up.

You know what could be a good exercise ? Take a sheet of lined paper, rip it out of your notebook or something, and fill it with hatching. Hatch in the lines, so you'd train your eye and hand. Start out softer and press stronger then go back to softer, learn to feel the medium, be it pencil or pen or marker.

I googled pencil hatching and got this for example(nothing fancy but will serve the purpose):

First fill a page (even better: a couple of pages) with the first one, the hatching. You can move on to different kinds of crosshatching after that if you feel confident enough.

Actually this kind of exercise should add more confidence to your lines too.

And about the lines, well. Do not rely entirely on the lines. Values are more important, working just with the lines it's easier to get lost in details that don't really help with learning how to construct when you start out. Try to find a large chunk of graphite of charcoal (I personally prefer soft ~9B graphite sticks) from you local art store and work with the big shapes.

First sketch out your area of interest, the face for example, then try to look for symmetry, there are usually bones like cheekbones and chin and lower jawbone visible when you look carefully enough, use these as fixed points, measure everything else in relation to these.
Do studies of individual elements in the face, eyes, noses, mouths, try to understand their construction, where are the planes and where are the breaking points for those plains.

Brbrbr. I hope I made any kind of sense. Good luck and keep it up, yo !

Hey man, on the first face there are some serious problems
The side of the face that should be falling away is larger/wider than the side that i commingtowards us It looks rly weird!
Also you could try to do some nose studies, there seems to be some construction errors in there. In the painting its not obvious but if i look at ur sketch its kinda clear

Ohwell all wid all a good updiddy! Keep it up m8
