some CHOW designs

Hey there! I think im in your critque group (correct me if im wrong, muzzoids right?)
I notice in your drawing above you've feathered your lines alot, i can get why you do this (because its hard not to) but if you try to capture form in as few lines as possible, you'll learn slightly quicker the form (rather then trying to find them with multiple line) and your sketches will have a nicer quality to them!
Not much to crit so far so keep it up!
Pic : thanks for the tip! this is really good advice, keep it coming!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
here's a comic I'm doing for technologyknoightsroundtable
It's still a WIP, and I've got a lot more work left (values, letters, refining etc.)

a speedpaint to finish off the day
Cools.
Try and get rid of your lines and pay more attention to how you are shading the forms. Also watch your materials, everything looks like its the same material. Focus on your speculars and so on.
You know what i really want to see you go and do some still life studies!
Here's a still life with specular reflection
Hells yeah man! thats the stuff!
Im still not 100% sure what it is made of, mahogony, wax ect? But that might be more the object than the painting.
Now go apply what you learn there you an imagination painting. I find that i learn the most when i do a study then go and immediatly apply it.

Really looking nice brewin! There seems to be a highlight missing along the neck, but that might just be me, and i think perhaps you've missed some shadow where it sits on the table, but i can see the table wasn't your focus.
it looks really great man
Dont have alot more to say or put out than the other people
sooo keep it up looking forward for the next stuff![]()
thanks everybody
pic: it was placed near a white wall which reflected the light, so there was no shadow.

nothing interesting for today
wow great wooden horse, is that a chess piece?
Hey brewin!
On your concept design there, I'm reading the creature as giant, and the gun on his back as medium sized.
Which confuses me, they seem to not be in scale with each other.
The gun could be giant as well i suppose, but then the creature would be massive and its legs don't seem like it could support that. I think maybe you could tweak the housing part of the mounted gun and make it slightly smaller as well as thickening the creature legs to make the scale of the creature larger
Hey dude this latest concept is great
We discussed it on msn already but from the front view i think the creature is indeed like PIC said not able to support its body!
Take a look at the komodo dragon picture i send you!
The legs you made now are just to narrow and to stiff along his body.
But like i already said!
This concept is cool and i bet its gonna look great!
darknight: thanks, nope it's some statue that I had lying around.
pic and rogerb: thanks for the tips!

self portrait

hey man, good to see u picked up doing a portrait.
First things that came to mind are.. im not being cruel this is just tips aye
The skincolor is waaaaay to pale,, or you are dead?
The lips are to thin and to cold.. put some more warm tints in there to make it look alive.
I think the light and dark contrast could be a bit more extreme so u get rid of the flat look.
i think you couldve put in a bit more work,, but its good practice anyway
Keep working hard!!
I agree with rogerb with the colours, fortunately Photoshop is so easy to mess around with when it comes to colours, i'm learning alot about them using it myself. Push the values, but i'm guessing you know that one, its what we all say to each other repeatedly.
Hmmm...the proportions of the facial features seem good, but the eyes don't quite seem to be on the same level to me, you could fix that with a bit of creative selecting and the brush im sure.
Keep it up!

Ive just realized that my displays show in different colors!
Can someone look at the horse study and tell me how bright (saturated) is it - strong red, or fairly mild?
I really need to know which one of my monitors is off! (maybe someone can point me to a cool website that teaches you how to adjust them?)
Anyways, thanks for the help roger and pic, I shouldve put more effort into it (and more values) I need to do as I preach![]()
the horse study is a good mahony red.. very woodish![]()
Yeah as you said, work on your values.
At this stage id say do alot of studies only in values, it will help alot.
I hope I got the monitors set this time
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
light study (more coming soon!)
I just realized that the drop shadows are too dark! *sigh* back to teh drawing board

Hey brewin
great studies, keep at them theyre one of the best ways to learn.
you probably already know this, but keep in mind the darkest values are in the core shadows. Even in a backlit situation, there will still be some bounce light that help show the form of the object.
hope you dont mind, i did a paintover to show what i mean. without the subtle bounce light, the cone reads very flat.
thanks a lot for the re-paint haste
-----------------------------------------------
Here's another one,
shred it with criticism!
awsome study man :o kinda big picture but this will do for my 24'' monitor O.o
GOGO MONITOR and GOGO mr BREWIN
samurai warrior concept thingy
Where did the SSG go? cmon guys wake up!
finished version of the comic
Hey man i think the way you worked out your comic is pretty cool :o
Its easy to read and fun to see the different scenes in just 1 page..
But the characters are to simple and the anatomy is pretty off..
Ofcourse thats less important in a comic..
But it is very important that the characters look the same trough out the story.
The way i recognize them now is by clothing.
Face looks pretty much different in all pictures.
But again its pretty nicely done, so keep it up!
rogerb yeah i forgot to check the anatomy, I really should know better
-----------------------------------
*the right one is sort of meh... don't mind his legs
In your last pic and your comic you seemed to have made the length of the back out of proportion with the legs, if its a common slip up you might want to keep an eye on it.
Nice to see the comic! Adds a bit of variety, it reads well, i think if you concentrate on some of the smaller elements, like the doors it would bring it forward a bit more.
I like your first samurai concept compared to your recent lot, maybe drag in a few elements from that one into this if you are planning to do something like that again?
I can see where you were going with the legs, Try getting a reference for them, references work wonders.
Hey man im find it hard to crit these..
They look like really quick drawings without any real effort or research in them.. :X
I think you couldve done better on these..
Like pic said, use some reference for those kind of legs, and also think about some construction..
If you take a good look at your left character he doesnt look very strong and stable.
put, besides the legs, also some good thought in his torso and pelvis.
Good luck with it, i hope this helps
Keep it up!
