Good stuff. I can see that the second two are in more of a cartoony style than the first two. If they were more realistically drawn, I would complain that the giant boulder in the distance behind the deer would be unstable, but in a cartoony universe, anything is possible.

As for the snowman? Really disturbing, but great use of the foggy atmosphere and light rays.

Oh man the deer valley one just made me say "holy shit" when I saw it. Really a dynamic piece. All the others are lovely, too. Great perspective on the shipwreck one.

have you ever heard of the Neapolitan Mastiff?
its probably the most ancient breed of dog known to man... whats interesting is that they used to load the dogs up with heavy armor with blades on their backs and train them to run under horses and disembowel them in battle
thats what i thought of when i saw your Hyena Mother

the only reason i know anything about this breed is i had a random dream awhile back about a dog that was massive, about 150lbs and looked kind of like a sharpei. but sharpei's are more like 35 to 40 pounds full grown... so i did some research and found these guys. it was the dog from my dream, but until i had that dream i didn't know the breed even existed. pretty crazy... check em out on wikipedia. they're extremely interesting dogs.
anyway... cool concept, it got my imagination going. haha

oh, one other thing: the armor looks kind of like a saddle... were you intending to have a rider?

Nice work with the hyena. I find the background a bit in front making the front characters and the rock they are standing in look like giants . Besides that, awesome work

Drin: Hey thanks a lot! I am glad you liked those two paintings. I think I will be doing more with that sort of style very soon. I had a blast doing them.

    Dahami: thanks man!

El Jeremie: im glad you liked it man. Well when I was coming up with the whole idea for that thing on its back ( sort of a skewer) is that maybe thats how they killed those people. I call it the shish Kabab attack! But yeah that was the main idea but I am not sure if it comes across like that haha

Pavel Sokov: I had a tons of fun creating those. I am still learning much about art so I am really trying to find my style that sets myself apart when it comes to concept art. So I try and play around as much as I can. It would be nice to someday be one of those artists where you can look at a painting from across the room and say "Hey thats a whoever painting". But not in a bad way.

TheDirtSyndicate: Man I wish my dreams were that interesting! Actually the only time i did have some really crazy dreams was when I decided to quit smoking and was on the patch. Got 12 weeks in as a non smoker now! But yeah back on topic. I have never heard of those dogs before so right after i hit the reply button I am going to go and check it out.

The Hyena doesnt really have any armor besides that plate on its chest. The idea is that she has lots of leather layers. And a satchel on its back but it is probably hard to make that out.

Parabol: Thanks for the crit man. I see what you mean. I dont really have anything in the bg to help peoples figure out how big they really are.

Again thanks for all the feed back guys!

    Update

    Hey everyone,

Here is my newest painting. The idea is that this city was built from random structures gathered from all around and stacked to build a city that stretches up very high in the sky.
This was going to be my entry into the Secret Agent Challenge but I did not finsih on time, so I decided to make it anyways but focusing on the environment.

    Thanks!

i really like all of them , you know how to put important parts into the spot and composition like too!
On the last pic, for me, it has not so much a feeling that the city is really high because the pub really holds the main focus , in my view but Anyway Great Works Matellis! .

    Thanks for the comments everyone!

Dahami: Yeah I seen your post and looked it up online. They are very similar! For some reason lately I have been very interested in the idea of people building stuff by grabbing whatever is handy. Almost like they have no advanced skills so they collect things from past civilizations.

    Incredible work Matellis!!

The hyena pic is AWESOME!! Out of the others I like the old, sunken shipwreck in the lagoon pic the best. Your viewpoint on that one blew me away……..holy smoly, strait down! If you look close enough there’s a small boat that made it to the beach too. Really like the details!

Excellent work, I particularly like the one with 'stecks pub' it has a very futuristic/crude appearance, very intense work.

/agree with Dizon. The last piece is one of the most atmospheric works I've seen in quite a while. Really draws me into the setting.

My only critique would be on the piece that's third from the top. I can see that you're going for some purposeful contrasts between angularity and fluidity, but the final result comes off as... odd.

Thanks a lot for the comments everyone , really makes me want to keep working hard and improving!

Dementist: Thanks for the crit man. I agree 100% with you now that I look at it with fresh eyes. I would really like to attempt more work like this to hopefully improve the contrast you mentioned. I had a blast painting it so hopefully I can improve upon the style.

On a side note I just got an email the other day about my newest painting here being in the next issue of 2D Artist Mag so if you are interested in checking out the high res it will be there

Again thanks guys! really glad you all enjoy my work And if anyone is interested I started a speed painting blog here: http://matellis.blogspot.com/ Most of the images are just simple studies done in 10 mins to an hour.
