Nice pen and ink sketches, Zorcron! Thanks for giving me pointers on my sketchbook. I think your abstract piece is very interesting. As for the Asian man painting, to my eyes, the sides of his face looks slightly wider than how it is in the photo. That's probably the only part that looks off. Your colors are great and I like your brushstrokes.

Acrilic on canvas 16x20 landscape from life

pretty small but its hard to carry around large canvases outdoors

the black wont be black at the end ,i was using charcoal to help block in shapes before i painted over

this is from life it was an amazing day to paint out doors but i didnt have
much time so il be working on finishing it at home

You should try painting bigger landscapes, the old school way. Drawing small at the scene then make it bigger when home

ive finished up this stage of the painting im going to go with what konstruktion and a few other people said

get a large canvas to paint from this ^ ^should be fun

im pretty sure those blues help the horizon get pushed back O.o


i learned a lot doing this one (about the paticular painting ) so when i scale it up it wont be so bad seeing as i have already discovered much about it

Hey all heres a WIP of a frozen wintery scene because its so FREAKING hot where i live , today (so far a couple hours it took me a while geting set up with a composition that wasnt killing my eyes )
its also been a while since i wasnt studying somthing from ref but il look at some snow /wintery ref before i do more


also im painting on a big canvas 36 by 32 and scaling up
that landscape painting i was working on ,so far so good il have in progress pics soon

wooo i have been in the zone with art in general lately i feel much more comfortable with my paints and its time to do some
groundbreaking things (for me anyways) with my digital abilities

thanks all (ugh i went small brushes too soon yet again! il scale up my brushes them perhaps come
in with a bit of texture) get some figures in there or some birds to give scale also

i really want it to have an epic scale so il probably push the horizon a bit more in to the distance

maybe some of those wicked wierd icy reflections too with snow drift il get some prominant ice and snow in the foreground also to give some referance

just thought birds probably is not a good idea seeing as its supposed to be some crazy hard wintery arctic scene

Nice composition and idea on this latest piece. I think you should stop scribbling and stop using black and white to lighten and darken colours, just adjust the value. I did a paintover to show you how using a bigger brush makes the ideas much clearer, and it saves a lot of time, this only took a few minutes. When I was doing it I noticed you went into detail in certain areas, when at this point you should just be considering values and colours etc. My paintover is kindof rubbish but i think it gets the point across. If you don't like it or something, pm me and I'll take it down

SamC wow that paint over is just the right idea im going to stop my scribbling right away and soften the piece and
work it from the ground up , thanks for the input man that helps a lot !

Here is that big canvas i just started working on i drew in a grid and had a bit of a blue underpainting

its sooo much fun painting on this big canvas haha i cant wait to get lost in the details much further down the road

the cliff in the backround should be more muted i just noticed .. it reads alright as thumbnail anyways haha thats step one

time to take a walk ive been staring at this screen for far too long

plopped a figure in there for human scale and i want it to seem like hes fighting everything to trudge
on i think the placement between him and that end of the valley or what ever it is will help

obviously its not time to refine things yet but i wanted to see what that would look like before i went further

kick in the butt of a start lad! especially I liked the ships on page 1 tons of potential.
you are doing fine keep drawing from life and photos you will think that you are not improving but you will! against your will! that's the part I like the most
keep all of your old work dont delete it, you will see after a year or two the difference...

Hey, wanted to say thanks for stepping by, and giving me advice.. I checked your sketchbook out, I liked those that you had in your first post, also the out door paintings are cool.. I hope to see that arctic painting finished soon ..Would give you some advice, but the thing is that I don't nothing about painting.

hey here are some figures i was doing from posemaniacs 30 seconds and 90 seconds i need a lot more practice with these so il be doing at least an hours worth every day

also i need to do some portraiture yipee ^ ^

done with charcoal on paper thats like 3 feet wide

Mate you have very good skills.I hope to see you continue the work and live here in CA and see your progress.
The anatomy needs some construction understanding.I think with a little focused training you can gain levels very fast.

alright heres a photo study portrait im doing of this guy who climbed everest in 1953 i dont remember his name but i pulled it from a national geographic anywayss

ive spent about 2 hours on it and im going to spend a lot more time i want to refine this one quite a bit to find some bounderys as far as my technical B/W studys go right now

only been using a chalk brush i made

il go back to figures and that ice enviro after this

pretty sketchy so far i intend to tighten it up

going to do some eye studys before i refine this guy's eyes


PS: cant believe its july !!! its already been like 2 months since i posted this SB dayummmm

Hey,

your work looks nice, your traditional paintings are your best works. Just keep working on the tonal values, and making things more smooth on places where it needs to be more smooth.
I'd love to see some sketches from imagination aswell.
