    carnal art

hey all, thanks for stopping by...

This painting is on canvass, the title is Delimia. This painting was my first on canvass, before I understood that less is definatly better. I wrote a short article about killing a painting with detail here

Hey, I've read your article and you're completely right.
When I saw your painting I thought; 'hmm... there's something wrong with it but I can't find out what...'
The way you painted it and the use of colours is beautiful, but it is indeed too much. Good that you saw that yourself too .

I'm curious for more of your stuff, I hope this is not the last painting you did. Untill more I subscribe here

Call of Cthulhu concept "the sailor Johanness's statue"

I have to come right out and say that the Character Davey Jones from the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean” destroyed all that was holy and macabre in the Lovecraft camp. Like I said Google Chuthulu, most images agree, then slap a pirate cap on it and yo ho ho, down to Davey Jones locker wit cha. I spent some time researching the descriptions strait from the “Call of Cathulu” text and here is what I came up with.

Call of Cthulhu Concept art, flushing out the statue from the story

The most detailed descriptions of Cthulhu in "The Call of Cthulhu" are based on statues of the creature. One, constructed by an artist after a series of baleful dreams, is said to have "yielded simultaneous pictures of an octopus, a dragon, and a human caricature.... A pulpy, tentacled head surmounted a grotesque scaly body with rudimentary wings." Another, recovered by police from a raid on a murderous cult, "represented a monster of vaguely anthropoid outline, but with an octopus-like head whose face was a mass of feelers, a scaly, rubbery-looking body, prodigious claws on hind and fore feet, and long, narrow wings behind."

    Ctuthlu poly-painting

    Marlisa: thanks for the encouragement.

Newman D: thanks for the complement. I should have been more clear in the post of the statue images, they were created useing Z-brush. but they are still sketches.

This image is a 3D poly painting useing the statue model of Ctuthlu.

    Free Ride

This oil painting was painted with a copy of National Geographic evolution of the elephant in hand for reference. In the painting there are 12 hidden elephants and 12 fairies. All the elephants are in the fore most elephant, starting with the wooly mammoth lower right. The fairies are colored light that represent the unknown biological mystery from which evolution is powered. The only clear figure of a fairy in the painting is riding a snail on top of the largest elephant’s head. I took a razor blade and scraped the paint away from the fairy on top of the elephant. it was an experiment to let light pass through the canvass of the scraped areas so that a light could be installed behind the painting. I have small light with a sensor on the outlet that comes on when the sun sets, the fairy glows every night at sunset.

    succubus

digital painting from pencil sketch, I have a lot of work ahead of me to streamline a work flow from pencil to digital. I separate layers and then use multiply and screen.. I think this might be a pussy way to go about it, I should use a pallet and normal, but I hesitate losing the pencil detail... any suggestions?

    Poor Poor Mikey

I was trying to convey a less grandiose image of the great master. I was trying to reach the worldlier since of what pressures this artist must have felt. If time stopped right after the unveiling of Michelangelo’s David, it wouldn’t be regarded as a masterpiece at all. And if it weren’t carved from the permanent media of marble, it may have even been destroyed by the shocked mob that first observed it.

    Sexy Devil Chicks, Macabre Maidens

This is a watercolor painting of a figure that kind of lost it's way. the figue over shadows the idea. It should have just been a figure painting. It sold really fast, but I felt like there was a real lack of content.

Man, this is some excellent work. Work that would have definitely made H.P. Lovecraft proud. Keep posting.

    Prelude to Faustition splash page/cover

nurraymjo: Thanks for the kind words. How crazy would it have been to have someone like H P Lovecraft direct an art project? probably end up an abstract piece with non-linear geometry and bulging cosmic eye balls. Allot of Lovecraft art is just that, odd gelatinous masses and piles of shapeless eyeballs. Other than darkness how do you paint something that is indescribably horrible? The jury is out on that one.

I will post some of my other Lovecraftesque work to provoke that question following this post.

speaking of cosmic eyeballs, remember that element I posted above that I said used over and over in my story board animation "Prelude to Faustition"?

it is not hard to pick it out in these next to pieces.

Ctuthlu concept sketch for 3D model

This is phase one of the concept for the 3D model, since there were two obviously different statues in the story of the same character, I thought that our not so little galactic priest Ctuthlu must have to transform to be truly alien an fit both descriptions... dude, like Optimus Prime alien, you know, more than meets the eye..

call of ctuthulu phase one concept model

this model is not finished this is just a sketch in a slightly skewed T pose.. I have a ways to go on this but couldn't wait to dick with it in photoshop. I pretty much just rendered a fog in z-brush then exported the model to photoshop and finished the sketch with a photo filter. Like the title says and the above sketch indicated, this model is phase one.. I will finnish this one, and then model Ctuthlu when he is pissed; transformed to reflect the other statue of him mentioned in the Lovecraft story. he is awake and he can swim really really fast..

Wow, awesome painting ability you have!

I really like that ink life drawing. I think it's my favourite thing in here. Feels loose and free and alive.

I think what would really help your paintings is more depth, maybe with more consideration to colour and contrast? I suck myself, lol, but I think that's where you need to focus to take your painting skills further. Awesome.

Oh and do more ink drawings!!
