    W. Scott Forbes Illustrations (09/16/09)

The first was my entry for the Darkstalkers Tribute - didn't get in but oh well. While the second is a pinup I was asked to do for the Oni press comic, Love Buzz.

Your work is very clean, but still very dramatic. Great posts, first and third were my favorites

Mm, most everything is great; especially your lighting. I think if you pushed your form a bit more these would be even better. Take one of your inspirations for example, Mr. Hughes; http://www.superherostuff.com/OtherI...m_hughes_2.jpg
Look at the variety of edges in the different shapes between light and dark here. Some edges are soft, some are hard and there is all manner of edges in between.

God I love those Ava concepts.

I've been trying to push my work to have a stronger sense of volume, using that sort of method. I recolored the storm illustration - check it out!

I would suggest giving her a little more shape/definition in the back/torso/midriff/waist area. As it is her torso looks somewhat tubular/cylindrical.

I agree with Dahami, I know your style is simple and clean; but in this case I think her body could use more definition. Pull out the details with darker darks and lighter lights. Add some drame, but it's still a great piece.

these are very good, but the josh middleton influence is so strong that it doesnt make you stand out as much as you could.

I'm trying to do my own thing, but it's tough.

Sure I'm influenced by him and others that have that same flowy style - age shouldn't be used as an excuse, but I only just turned 20 so I have some time to find my feet and my own voice.

    Thank you!

Those last 3 comic pages are wicked. I like how that girl gives him some shit and he just zaps her! Ha ha ha! And how the girls pet velociraptor gets shot and it cuts to her expression. The red haired girls chest looks a bit funny on the first page mind. It looks like a good story and the panels are really nice!

hey sorry if i was being too harsh, i really do like your stuff and think your very talented. for being only 20 these are all the more impressive. the only thing i would look into is in some of the pics the line work, rendering, color choices, and composistion all look very much like middleton's work to me. just my personal gripe, i think you have a lot of talent that these obviously show.

I didn't think it came across as such- don't worry!

I'm working on developing my own style, pushing things like in the Cloak and Dagger (although they may be subtle). But the thing is, when I draw I don't go about thinking "I'm going to draw like Middleton" I just draw and this is what comes out.

Hopefully my own voice/style will come to me as I grow.

Hey Scott, that Cloak and Dagger piece, were you inspired by Joshua Middleton? It looks preeeetty close to his depiction of them. Link here:

    Hey Sleep_Eden_sleep.

I can't say I wasn't subconsciously inspired, heck I use to design/manage his site. But I didn't even think about it when drawing this.

The thing is, for the two of them, the theme is pretty common; Cloak in back, with Dagger throwing her light daggers towards the reader / observer. Heck look at these:

    http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/ma..._Dagger_01.jpg
http://skottieyoung.deviantart.com/a...gger-130701507 - What got me interested in drawing the two of them back in August!

    http://norke.deviantart.com/art/Cloa...78?moodonly=24
    http://pitchfork.com/features/get-th...your-mouth-33/

Here are a few preliminary sketches for the illustration.
