pretty good for a ten minute sketch!
pretty good for a ten minute sketch!
Good too see your still working on this ^_^ Going to turn out epic.
Thanks guys! I hope you're right about the epic - I'm trying for that.

working on hands - These are mostly hand positions in the ongoing piece that I modeled with my left hand while drawing with my right. Mirrors are fun.

Cool studies.
On the larger piece, to me there is something off about the woman on the rights head.
It is either too big, or her neck might be too thin, I'm not too sure.
But its heading in the right directionKeep it uppp
It looked like the neck was too small and not properly centered to me. Let me know if I fixed it.
Also more work on the mage/fighter conflict. Tweaked some hands, added a better energy blast, played with lighting...

Another bunch of hand studies

A bunch of quick studies from old postcards and photographs. And a quick sketch of my hand.
![]()
Worked on the foreground and the mage. Especially the mage's hair... I need to flip this more often. Looks like the mage and fighter legs are the next things to fix...
![]()
Some work on the legs...
![]()
Changed figure sizes and locations to help with the composition and cleaned up the legs and poses a bit.

A 15 minutes sketch for the speed group - I ran out of time while shading.
Still working on stuff. I thought I needed a light source higher up so I added a stream of energy. Also more work on feet and legs.
![]()
Cleaned up the foreground a bunch

Working on hands again...
... because I needed to fix one in the ongoing piece.
I'm still not satisfied with it but it's better.
More hand studies and a quick self portrait

A quick color study (with reference inset):
and some refinement of the cliff fight:

Hand studies (partial face for size comparison...)

Trying to figure out orangutans enough to turn one into a shaman type character:
and a quick scene with said character:

Quick color schemes (And one with the greyscale for comparison)
![]()
Added colors - I'm not sure about the middleground rocks and the sky might be too saturated.
This is starting to feel done... at least until I find the next thing that bothers me. (maybe the fighter's sword arm...)
Refined the colors a bit. Still not sure about them...

It's developing pretty well, but, dunno about the blue light.
Don't you think it's too much strong in the distant characters while it's too weak into the closer ones?
Also, cool SB =]
do you think this is a values issue or a color issue?
A couple speed sketches:
9 minutes
and 15 minutes
both are from reference that someone posted on another site.
More messing with the color on the ongoing piece.

thumbnailed sequentials:

More sequential thumbnails.

page 1:
I think I need to be a little clearer in the thumbnails in the future.
Page 2:
Definitely need to work more on the thumbnails. This step is so easy when they're done well...
Added a bunch of details:
Armored up the fighter too - I need to simplify the armor skirt (I'll probably split it on the sides and leave it solid otherwise) but that will keep until next time.
another 15ish minute sketch for that speed group:
