Not gonna lie but that silent hill statue looks really creepy

Try to make longer lines when you do your line pieces, if you keep making small brief lines your much more likely to get that "hairy lines" effect.

Hi bumpkin! Oooh dude my mom has one of these. I did a day and night study of it before. I also have an Intuos 3. Are you sure you're not me? What else of mine do you have? Do you have my Gameboy SP too!? Geesh! Ha!

I like the figure studies. Skin is so hard to get right, but once you understand the properties and how the skin sucks and bounces the light back towards your eyes. You can draw skin anytime anywhere without reference. This is what I'm trying to learn. Dark skin, light skin, purple skin, red skin, etc.

Sargent study a good start! Though when you do it, remember to think in the mind of Sargent. The reason you are doing the master study is not to copy brush for brush, but to understand how he applied principals of value, light, and composition. Then use these new tips into your own work later on. You will always learn from these no matter what.

Keep up the great work! The more you observe, the better you get (no matter what).

mattgamer: lol, how are you learning skin? just photo studys?
vatsel: thanks man, that song is very very catchy ;_; and yeah its not a wip, its just a negative space + color + shape study, not aiming for details with that one!
    ----------
firstly, an overly happy black man from reference, the anatomys awful, it was quick and just blocking in, a colour excersize.
the rest are some lame ass looking pen sketches of vilppu, working on anatomy + pen technique, i learnt to slow down and actually watch the form a lot more on that second last image, the far right knee on that, and the last image., still need to slow down even thurther!

tonight i did this stuff at life drawing, i went to this place called 'the sculpture society' and they do the life drawing for sculpters, so they put the model in one pose for the 2 hour session but on a turntable and change the angle 90 degrees every 15 minutes. pretty cool, but next month will prolly be my last ;_; its once a month and its not on december/january and their changing it to Wednesdays and I can't do that cause of class and such whatevers bro.
so so so wednesday i have muse, which'll be good then saturday i have another life drawing sesh and HOPEFULLY sunday aswell, or atleast next week i hope. bum bum bum bum buuum

Maaaaaate, you're doing so great. It seems like yesterday you were an enthusiastic kid but now......................you're a man with a digital beard. I wish I had of thought of the idea of being an artist at 15 so I could get legitimate access to nude girl pics back then.
Well done Ryan, you're blitzin it mate.

Hey man, thanks for stopping by my sketchbook. You are doing pretty awesome, and you are drawing tons and improving tons which is great.

I can tell you are really serious (and at 15 too) so here are some thoughts though on your stuff:
    1) You do many very quick sketches. I think it would benefit you greatly to slow down a bit on them, as well as do at least one or two long studies (like spend an entire evening or two on a single piece). If you only do quick things you will only reach a certain level and not be able to produce a good finished piece of art. Balance out your studies a bit.
    2) Looking through your art it looks to me as though you are often focusing more on line and shape than form and construction. I notice you are studying Vilppu and Bridgman, which is great, now try to apply it to some of your lifedrawings. I notice in post 547 for instance that on many of the drawings the proportions way are off, and they lack form and structure. I find it is best to think in three dimensions while looking for two dimensional relationships (hope that makes sense).
    3) Your work seems flat often times. This is partly due to what I covered in the previous point, but also due to a weakness in colour/value. I think a few greyscale studies would help to understand the play of light on form, but then some colour studies also help. I notice that you don't vary the hue and saturation as carefully as you could. It can be really tricky, but hue and saturation can really help to turn form and make things appear much more realistic. For example in post 568 (maybe not the best example as they are really fast) there is almost no variation in hue or saturation from the light to shadow, and it immediately flattens and looks "off".

I'll leave it at that for now, and I hope I didn't come off as harsh or rude (people in my art class in highschool have basically forbidden me from critiquing because it hurts their feelings haha) but I think you are serious enough to be able to take it. You are going to be amazing if you keep it up, so don't stop.

    ----------
some frazetta studies, theyre so inaccurate, i focused on value, form and rendering so i didn't approach it the same was as i would at life drawing or an anatomy study, which was bad ;_; i tried tho, my next will be better fsho.

so um tommorows life drawing again, the clothed one, so i need to apply what bapsi was saying tonight and what andrews saying so err yeah hopefully ill have some pimpin picchurs 2 sh0w y@'ll tommora
    gnight friends.
