I agree the perspective needs work. Take special care with the values ... look REALLY hard into it.
Keep at it bro, you're definitely on the right track

r y a n o i r FTW
Yo man. You're the shit haha. Like seriously all I could draw when I was 14 was some stupid dudes with big noses. And you're allready studying the right shit. Doing a brague study at 14? Haha that's just incredible.
On the last page you're allready doing some character concepts that's good. Make sure you never stop doing those and get into the habit of doing only studies. Always make sure to imply what you have learned and keep your creative muscles going.
When doing your pencils you tend to have pretty rigid lines. You got a lot of undescriptive lines so what I suggest you work on is line quality. Just start out with very light lines in that way you can make a lot of marks without really dedication to your final image. On top of that you can draw a clean crisp line. Also you're still a bit blocky. Try and use more bumps and stuff and really convey what you're drawing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhF4fBetN4Y < check that link it's a good example of what i mean.
Also I think you should kinda stay away from rendering everything at this stage. First goal is to get a solid foundation with your lines. Now you're kinda overrendering stuff and using to much mid values. Look at how some pros like Wesburt render and see how much they still leave white etc.
Anyway man you're awesome. That chem dude is awesome as well as the ninja. GOod to see you tackling that shit and that digi study is looking pretty solid as well. Be sure to have some value variation in the background. The plain bg makes it look pretty dead now while it could achieve so much more.
Anyway you rock and if you keep this up you'll rock the shit out of everyone in a few years. Keepitup.
wow, im so slow O:
this took too long, way too long, also procrastination and a lack of focus does not help! D:
internets still slowww btw but ill try and still upload shitt,
Oh and thanks for the comments everyone ;D
thanks Jordy for the massive post and that videos on my ipod now thanks![]()
Nice effort! there should be darker values, and you should watch the construction more closely.
It's gonna take a short while until you'll be able to do these fast, but practice makes perfect! Now go do another one.
I 2nd Vatsel, take your time to understand the structure so you can copy it exactly the same, and then you'll be able to remember it for other times when you are drawing from imagination =)
yah whateverrr
Dedication is something I dig big time. Great work, lots of stuff in the last post. One thing though, I spy some posemaniacs in there. I'd recommend cutting them out. I used to do a lot of them, because they make you feel good and it's straightforward work, but art isn't that easy. I noticed no improvement from doing them. You're much much much better off cutting them out completely and drawing figures from characterdesigns.com and other sites with good photo ref. Just do gestures of those figures. Oh and another thing... study your basic shapes. Sounds dumb, but I still study drawing simple spheres, cubes and rectangles in freehand perspective sometimes. Algenpfleger used to do it too, even when he was already really good. Once you have a handle on understanding those forms, you can take them and start transferring them to the figure to understand the form of the figure. And make sure to balance your reference and imagination work to maximize effectiveness. I like the new name by the way.
don't forget those handouts i sent you. gesture, gesture, gesture.

Keep at it.. nothing to add atm, most of the problems here you'll figure out yourself by doing more of these.
Always think of proportion and perspective.
Some nice improvements since the first post. You're on the right track, man. Just keep doing those Loomis and Hogarth studies (and try to apply the learned stuff in those refless drawings)!
![]()
mmm, keep up with these studies bro, you're doin really great for your age! You should totally post those sketches you been doin for the chow in here, so we can give you some critsKeeep it goin bro!
so young and doing so great already!
Most important thing of all is to keep having fun while drawing man!
And just stick with it!
Succes comes in the long run!
So keep drawing and studying hard!
U CAN DO ITT![]()
Cdejong: thanks man (: i will stop posemaniacs, and ill try and do those shapes
a la bapsi: how could i forget them? thank you ;D
Vatsel: thank you (:
Novert: Thanks, good to know that it's noticable improvement thank you !
Agelaos: Thanks, and here here here check it out mann
Rogier: aww thanks man ;D i can doo iittt
yeah so here are an apple and ChoW work in progress cause Agelaos said to![]()
I love this one but I see something I can help you with that I've learned when doing studies like this.
If you care about getting everything right then as your drawing, compare angles. Look at the image your using for reference, and then look at the angle you created or create the same angle if you have not already. Notice the angle of the left arm of yours and the reference, there's a slight deviation. It's no big deal, just something I notice when I do this stuff too.
Great stuff keep it up!
thank you! ;D
good work on the apple man
Though try to watch your shadow side
To get some real form in there u need to get a darker and lighter side ofcourse. for now it kinda looks a little flat.. What you could try is to mirror the image, this wil refresh the picture for your brain and most of the time shows you where you went wrong
Further, it is great work you have put on paper here
Keep it up man!

Hi ryanoir! Here's a quick paint over, forgive the quality please, it's 2 in the morning. Someone should probably do a paint over of my paint over.
Keep rocking!
oh man, thank you soo much ;D
geez man, i cant express how happy i am ;D
thanks so much!
EDIT;; what does everyone think of the wings? wings or no wings?
Last edited by ryan mcshane; January 12th, 2010 at 01:18 AM.
nice apple study man, looks pretty solid
nice studies, but i dunno crap about legs, i should start studying! xD
I agree with most of what cdejong said, except about the forearm perspective, I've seen people say that before, but it's a matter of drawing, it's not an error, you can move your arm in both ways, as cdejong says and as you drew it, so, you're not wrong on that, on everything else yes lol
the wings look good, but if you're gonna do them, check out references and give a big thought when drawing it, because drawing it wrong (like you did this time) will be awful in the final render, remember wings will be in something like a "v" form, therefore, the left wing will be in another angle! hope you understand me![]()
an update, redid it too many times
tried this with like, chaos painting and then it ended up aright so i refined it
DHTenshi;. thanks mangreat help
hey there pandah! I see you too have fallen prey to the great bridgman
I think you're doing great as a scematic drawing to help your understanding. but the great thing about the bridgman studies is you have to start thinking in 3 dimentional space. try and picture how the different shapes relate to eachother in 3 dimentional space and try confey that in your drawing. I'm not saying that is easy. but it is sort of the point of bridgman.![]()
Warning, I draw babiez
