i think a futuristic setting would allow for less restrictive styling as we can borrow apparel design from pretty much whatever era we want, and would allow some flexibility in the design.
could also allow for non-human characters, like aliens or other races in characters like the sage
I suggested a space pirate theme, maybe victorian england horror/steampunk, or old west also. Matt you suggested a 1920s styled futuristic setting that seemed like a really cool idea, my working knowledge of the styles of that time is a bit limited and will require some more research to ensure interesting variety while maintaining the right look
